DRINKING THREAD.

Now Drinking: Mikerphone's Disco Superfly

It's ok. Glad I tried it, but won't be buying again. By the way, excuse the shit filter. Thought it looked better than it did as it went with the whole disco theme. hahaa

>>
Just a virgin coffee for now. Bottle st remy brandy waiting for me when I get home in like 4 hours. Got beer but it feels like a liquor kind of night.
>>
>>23679745

What kind of Remy? VSOP? White?
>>
Drinking Mikes Harder lemonade. All the arrogant bastard is gone. All the rums gone. All that remains is one Mikes Harder and budweiser.

Super shit tonight.
>>
>>23679771

I'm so sorry for you. At least at one point in time, you had a fun night with all those Arrogant Bastards and such. I'll be sure to pour a little out for you when I open the next beer.
>>
>>23679782
You save that delicious drink for your liver! the sentiment is received though.

You got a favorite beer?
>>
>>23679809
Ok, if you say so...

It's too hard to choose a favorite beer. Though, if I had to choose a favorite style, it'd probably be Imperial Stouts (aged in bourbon barrels) with Sours being right behind.
>>
>>23679759
VSOP. Smooth as hell. After first couple sips, I could drink it like water. Just tastes better.
>>
>>23679827
Breakfast stout is by far my favorite imperial.
>>
>>23679834
Chug the rest of the bottle. lol

>>23679847
Founders' Breakfast Stout? Oh man, I love that stuff! This season alone, I pretty much bought at least 2 cases worth!
>>
>>23679885
I really went ham on it. Then again, I do love me some delicious Sixpoint Resin IPA. Now that ive gone through quite a bit of.
>>
>>23679902

Resin is delicious! I'm sure you're a fan of Hi-Res?

Indeed.

>>23679975
Lol, I was just about to post how the Odd13 beer is a tad hazy, kind of like all of these new "New England IPAs" such as Treehouse, Trillium, and Hoof Hearted.
>>
>>23679980
Haha well is it pretty smooth?

I'd say that treehouse definitely is hazy. My favorite being the Alter Ego.
>>
>>23680000

Somewhat smooth. Has a little bit of a bite from the bitterness, as expected. Just started eating some spicy boneless chicken and my palate isnt the best right now. hahaha

I don't believe I've ever had any Treehouse before.
>>
>>23680034
Well good things then. Hopefully it does deliver some good flavors. Also food sounds exquisite ...

Well unless you have gone to the brewery, only their alter ego and green can be seen. If at all. They sell for a pretty penny. None of the on tap beers are canned though. Tasty stuff though.
>>
>>23680046
Indeed. Took a sip right before I ate anything and it was decent and worth a try at least once.

How about Julius? From the sounds of it, I would guess you live near Treehouse??
>>
>>23680073
I have had it. Its as hoppy as youd expect for such a fruity beer. Honestly it was quite tasty.

I live in Connecticut.
>>
>>23680097
Damn, I'm mad jealous of you. I'm sure you get your fill every week of amazing beers.

Man, if I lived there, I'd go to Vermont all the time for Hill Farmstead, etc. etc.
>>
>>23679942
i ended up drinking like
grey goose with coke
smirnoff with coke
and i had a malibu shot with my roommate's

- pbr girl <3
how are you tonight
>>
>>23680118
This is true! Of course i stay pretty local, but theres so many brewerys here.

Speak your province Imperial Stout man!
>>
>>23680121
That sounds like one hell of a night! Kind of makes me want to drink some bourbon just so I can catch up with you. hahaha

I'm doing ok, I suppose. Got off work a few hours ago and haven't done much since besides drink a little. How about yourself?

>>23680124
I could imagine! I live in Indiana. There's some amazing breweries here that have only started up within the last year or two. I can guarantee you, be on the look out for a brewery called Central State out of here in Indianapolis. Once they start canning/bottling a lot more, everyone is going to know them.
>>
>>23680121
Proper choices! alas, youve made it to the final stretch, but acquire more booze.

>>23680147
I support your bourbon decision. make it happen.

I'll keep an eye out for them though. im always in the mood for more delicious beers.

Can we all do shots? i have one left of rum?
>>
>>23680154
So far, Central State has only canned two things (Gose w/ cranberries & lime and an IPA with Brettanomyces). But, within the next 6-8 months, they'll be in contact with some world class brewers from like Saint Somewhere, Ritterguts, Jolly Pumpkin, Freigeist, etc.

Shots? Ok! But, all I have is bourbon....
>>
>>23680154
i wish i could acquire more booze haha. im prety good now. considering im also sick i shouldnt even be drinking

There is a downside to this adventure. Upon inspection of my kitchen i have realized there is half a bottle of jaeger here...Im ashamed to say i gave it a double take when i walked in.

>>23680260

Now Drinking: Taxman's Death & Taxes (Belgian-style Imperial Stout aged in Bourbon barrels)

This is...something. It's got a strange blend of all sorts of flavors, ranging from like plums & cherries to vanilla, bourbon, and chocolate. The dark fruits play a smaller role, but theres enough to make this beer just a bit strange.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Be00t9Xu_fM
>>
>>23680371
so this is the epitome of your favorite type of stout. deliciously sweet, thick (ish) and well... strangerous haha

sounds proper though.
>>
>>23680374
Hahaha, kind of? The Belgian yeast is what I'm guessing is making this taste a bit strange. Plus, it tastes it wasn't in the barrel for too long of a time.

A bit pricey, too.

>>23685620
>sommelier

That's for wine, dude. The beer equivalent is Cicerone.
>>
>>23685635
You literally just proved my point you incredible faggot.
Beer was made to get fucked up on not for fruity undertones and a smoky finish.

Also I fucking know what a sommelier is I'm a line cook at a fancy fuckin restaurant with the biggest wine cellar within 300 miles
>>
>>23685644
>I fucking know what a sommelier is

Then you would've known the correct term to use when trying to insult someone, you slouching sack of bull dirt. ;)

Beer should definitely not be taken seriously. However, there's over 80-90 styles of beer, so to make a blanket statement as something like, "all beer tastes the same" is so ridiculous to be taken seriously.

Yeah, it might've been made to get fucked up on wayyyy back centuries ago. However, it's fun to try new beers and dissect it like a frog in seventh grade.

Mosaic session ale.

1. I'm very fucking spun out right now
2. I don't think all beer tastes the same. I just think you pansies are getting way too into it.
3. I was trying to point out what faggots you are, much like sommeliers.
>>
>>23685677

Hahaha, dude, I'm not off into space too, but not too far.

Was just saying that in general, with the "all beer tastes the same" statement. Sommeliers are quite pretentious and some cicerones can be as well. However, there are tons of beer people that love beer, like to dissect, and enjoy new flavors in things they haven't had before.

I've definitely met some beer people that were so obnoxious and went sooo beyond just observing & enjoying a beer that I've practically walked away from them mid-way through a sentence.
>>
>>23685670

Roundabout pic! Also it's a Philadelphia area beer. Manayunk, being in phily, will do that. They do some really good brews if you are in the area. This one is an oatmeal IPA. It's delicous. I wish I could say more, but it just is delicious.

Awesome. I'll be sure to look for their beers while in Baltimore. Any specific ones that you'd recommend?

The other day, I went to a craft beer pub... amazing selection, I'd estimate around 100 different beers from around the world, 20 or so of them on tap.

But, to be brutally honest, I still don't see the appeal of craft beers. They are expensive and don't have any edge over the run-of-the-mill stuff I can get in any supermarket 'round here.

Beer, the craft stuff in particular, is a huge spectrum with almost 100 styles plopped on it from end to end. The multitude of flavors you can get from a beer can be fascinating, educational, and, above all, delicious.

There should be a class that's available for everyone in college where you learn how to homebrew. Homebrewing teaches you how difficult it can be to make a good beer as there are sooo many things that can go wrong and you need to watch for. For instance, you can give 100 brewers the exact same recipe and, in the end, you'll get 100 different beers (not extremely different, but enough to notice small differences).

Another example is that people don't realize how crucial the quality of water is when using it to make a beer. You can't just take city water. throw it into a pot, and start brewing a beer. For breweries, they have to add a precise amount of chemicals in order to neutralize the water and be sure nothing like chlorine or whatever is in the water or else the beer is going to be shit. Also, fermentation is also a crucial step in the beer making process that takes the utmost attention when it sits while the yeast converts the sugars into CO2 and alcohol. But, now I'm just rambling. hahaa

Beer is just like food. Yeah, you can go the cheap route and buy a case of Bud Lite for 1/2 the price of a case of craft beer. However, you get what you pay for. Domestics (Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.) are to fast food as craft beer is to top quality restaurant. A lot of craft beer can be an experience and it's intriguing to try new beers and expand your mind on what a beer can be.

I will add that, even though I & many others shit on domestics, I have a huge respect for them. On the huuuuuuge scale that they're brewing at, it's mind-boggling how they can turn out a consistent product every single day.

Mate, please. As if I was talking about Bud and the like when I talk about beer from the supermarket. Stuff from the supermarket is Weihenstephaner etc...

I guess I'm just a beer pleb anyway since I don't much care for the fancy flavors that craft beers try to achieve. In a beer I look for a solid body or, plain and simple, it being palatable (mind you, that doesn't mean flat/light/watery).

Im guessing you live in Europe?

Of course a beer doesn't have to be jammed packed with all sorts of flavors in order to be good. Something that is simple and crushable can be just as enjoyable as some bourbon barrel aged adjunct stout.

Yep, Germany to be precise. So... I guess I kind of have the benefit of a rather extensive beer history going into the stuff that gets sold in our supermarkets?

Even so, there is a lot of debate here lately about the purity law (which isn't a law at all) and how constraining oneself to the four basic ingredients makes all beers kind of the same and restraints creativity, where craft beers are supposed to come in.

Also no idea why my ID changed between my last two posts.

Last one of the night. Seems like half the time, I drink just to bump this thread. Probably going to stop drinking nearly as much as these threads seem to usually be dead. And here I am, babbling about nothing that no one would give a care about. Oh well.
