/x/ has relatively strong board culture, though. It's endearingly shitty. Also the amount of bullshittery involved in the occult and crypto-shit goes well with 4chan's moist wit, even if the place is full of crossboarders.
/soc/ is just almost blatantly not 4chan, though. Many other boards such as the ones for Yaoishit or Image dumps still retain enough of the spirit due to mutual usage by old-enough-fags that even they with their lack of text manage to outclass this. You could easily misidentify any given THREAD on here as being from any given social site if read OOC

/x/ has lost its way these days. It's been a steady decline for the last few years. There are two types of threads on /x/, role playing threads, and threads asking why there are only role playing threads. While /soc/ has its intense amounts of complete shit like meh threads, brutally honest rates, and countless dicks threads there are small amounts of worthwhile posts.

I just enjoy talking with strangers. I'm more comfortable sharing personal things with people that I don't know and vice versa. Being anonymous is cool too I guess.
I also post my picture here occasionally because I'm quite vain to be honest. The nature of 4chan means you'll get the wildest compliments and the meanest shit thrown at you, and most of them will be perfectly honest. That is a refreshing atmosphere to most people, since in person, everyone is usually too worried about being polite to comment one way or the other.
The same actually applies to most boards on 4chan.
