First, it was fun to hear you talk. It always interesting to hear someone's natural tone and rhythm while they speak. I still like your voice.
As to what you said, I've got allergies. I typically hit that shower to wash off allergens. If being in the shower, specifically, aggravates you, I think mold or mildew is your problem.
Maybe replace or wash the shower curtains. And your shower head - try scrubbing it or taking it off and soaking it in vinegar/scrubing it with soap. If you can't take it off, you could use rubber band to attach a ziplock bag of vinegar to it for a bit, then take the bag off and run the shower on hot for a bit to rinse it.

Ok, that is extra weird. But it still makes me think you have some mold/mildew issue, if chlorinated water is the only kind that doesn't mess with you. Other showers could have the same problem with the shower head/curtain and of course the ocean has a variety of plant matter and things.
