I scanned your QR but it just made a copy of your mii... I need to figure out how to add people who are not from Facebook and twitter, if there's even a way. Someone who wasn't even my facebook friend added me earlier somehow

I thought QR codes would add each other as friends. Looked into it a bit more and it looks like only fb or twitter friends can add each other if you're not in the same room. Hopefully there will be an update to fix this. Once again, Nintendo completely fails in this department.

It's a social app. I'd rather be able to get random people via QR code too, but they want you to link it to your social accounts and shit. QR is for using the Miis on picture edits.
So keep in mind the kind of crowd you are going to use it to interact with. You can associate it with real accounts and interact with friends or just go with a throwaway twitter handle post it here and follow anons back to start with. Adding actual friends face to face if you feel like it. Or not if you don't really want to mix the two.
After you reach a certain number of friends it starts giving you suggestions based on the number of people you have in common.
Your miitomo friends will be able to see all the replies you get once they get access a question. If you don't want to mix anons and real life people you have to make a choice.

Miitomo basically needs a throwaway Twitter to work, heh. Do you lose your friends if you unlink from or delete your Twitter account?
