Also my hair is shit; I usually put a paste and try to comb it up and a bit to the side so that it adds volume at the top (not like in left pic btw), but no matter what "hair product" I try it always takes lots of attempts to get my hair to look human - usually at first attempts it looks like in the pic on the right.
I'm considering just going to a good hairdresser and telling him to unfuck my shit.

Try get some volumizing powder dude. Its super cheap and it just adds some structure and volume and helps it hold some shape without looking flat.
