It's not xenophobia, it's blatant racism. I've some Somali friends but even they agree that their culture has bred the worst kind of toxicity. They're secular, bigoted, and unappreciative at large, and I don't appreciate having to work my ass off to live in worse conditions because the charity sites in our town have decided it's worth tax money to never require them to get a job. But I'm also an insufferable ass.

Pretty sure I know you (':

>>
>>23494271
I'm afraid I don't understand your point.
>>
>>23494289
>learned from your co-workers
That would be implying that I haven't been in the middle of the Somali community here for years, and tried to be a good neighbor for the first year before giving up because of their behavior towards any but their own. No doubt there are good, progress-driven individuals that seek a better life, hence my mentioning of having a few Somali friends. That is a minority. I've learned from them and first-hand that their culture, mostly due to the environment of their home country, is riddled with social flaws and inability to adapt to their surroundings. The majority of Somali immigrants have no interest in having good relations with the rest of the community, they only want to remain secular and receive welfare and drive the nice cars the state gave them because it's a luxury that they only dreamed of before this. I can't say I fully blame them, if I had grown up like they did I would probably want to spend the rest of my life in competitive paradise as well, but that does not mean that I will abide by their blatant disrespect for improvement and acceptance of others. When you have the apartment complex next to you breaking bottles and burning their cars out in the parking lot at all of hours of the night, children breaking and stealing things for fun without reprimand from their parents(if even support in doing so), and a man on megaphone reading religious texts at the early hours claiming religious freedom when protested for disruption, you can tell me that my views are biased and wrong. It sounds like you haven't involved yourself in very much volunteer or in-depth work with this particular culture. Good for you for being polite and accepting, really hoping and believing the best, that's a healthy mentality and I entertained it for the first year or so, but I learned the hard way.

The Twin Cities Somali population is famous for its pedo rings

Looks like Smash 4.
>>
>>23511138
I feel so relieved.
>>
>>23533601
I get the feeling you aren't actually relieved, lol. How are you? More Star Trek?
>>
>>23533620
I'm trying to relax and also prep for training a new coworker tomorrow, haven't done that for awhile.

What's up with you?
>>
>>23533764
oooooh, training a new coworker. Sounds pretty official. I'm playing in an online TTRPG because I'm an huge nerd. Tomorrow, I shall wash all the dishes and do all of the laundry, and lounge around. The next day... I dunno. Possibly vidya games? Boss has me working like, 2 shifts a week for some reason. It's nice to not work 5 days straight when I'm depressed, but 2 days a week doesn't bring in the cash.
>>
>>23529722
ayy 22/M
Roseville. I sure do love having malls and literally nothing else to do
>>
>>23533927
lol, sounds like a blast.
>>
>>23533861
it is kind of intimidatingly official, yes. I hope I won't choke.

TTRPG...i thought that meant an in person game? What is an online TTRPG like, compared to an MMPORG? I don't know much about gaming, obviously.
>>
>>23533965
TTRPG is tabletop, but a lot of people can't find games IRL, so roll20.net was made! You can find people online that also use the system you're familiar with, and play! You can design maps, make little tokens using character art you find online or make yourself. You can make online character sheets. It's pretty nice. I used to have a real life group, but they were horrible, so I ditched them. Couldn't find another group in my area, so now I play with people all over the damn place. My character just baked cookies!

MMORPGs are about grinding an avatar to the max level and running dungeons for gear and such. Fun? Sure.

TTRPGs can be about a lot of things, but the element I like the most is cooperative story crafting. The Game Master makes a world, and the players build characters. You work together to craft a tale that can be anything! Scary, emotional, happy, silly, serious, whatever. Hell, I've cried due to emotional Roleplay scenes before. It's like a book that you're involved in.
>>
>>23534006
What system you playing, fellow elegan/tg/leman?
>>
>>23533962
it's not actually that bad, but I'm a cheap bastard, so when the entertainment in the area is malls, it's a little disenfranchising.
I have a small hoard of booze so it's not a big deal, I just stay home and watch movies.
>>
>>23534032
Oh dear, I should prepare to get laughed out of this thread. Pathfinder. I recognize many of the problems with the system, but I just can't seem to shift to another. I've been reading up on Eclipse Phase, I'm in a Firefly game, and I'm also reading Craft World, but Pathfinder keeps drawing me back. It's like Pathfinder is the only cheap lay in town. You know you shouldn't. You know there are pricier, better lays. Hell, you know masturbation is better. But you keep coming back.

>>23534042
I know that feel. Gods, I know that feel.

>>23533965
I trust you won't choke. Believe in the me that believes in you!
>>
>>23534006
Oh, got it. That makes sense. People can find other people to play with online instead of hoping to find a group close to where they live that they can get along with.
>>
>>23534106
yeah, pretty much. There's options for voice and video and stuff too. We don't use it, though. Many of the players have speech problems, or don't want to attempt voicing a character that isn't of their gender.
>>
>>23534088
Eh, Pathfinder might not be the best system, but it's playable. I have the same deal with D&D 3.5, so I don't really have room to talk.
>>
Bump for nic cool weather
>>
30/m/burnsville. Why is this thread still alive? I died of boredom skimming through it.
>>
Bumping for one of the longest MN threads.

>>23533601
Your sass has no power here, commie scum.
>>
>>23534006
It looks like there is at least a little bit of interest in DnD / Pathfinder so its worth a shot. Anyone who would be interested in a DnD group send me an email at [email protected]. im in 763 nw side of the cities. If we have enough i terest it may work out but i doubt it.

I'm fortunate that there's a pretty decent game store in Duluth to do all my /tg/ stuff

Damn why is Minneapolis getting all the love

Haha I'm good! Just really bored!

Bars mostly, but a good restaurant or some other cool place to hang would be sweet.
>>
>>23538174
Good to hear! It's rare that ladies actually join this thread. How do you like Dinkytown? I've heard mixed things.
>>
>>23538232
I love it! But people who don't go to the U probably wouldn't.
>>
>>23538236
So you're going to the U? What's your major?
>>
>>23538228
I dont know the club scene too well, but of the bars Ive been to Downtown, I liked The Local, Kieran's, The Imperial Room and Mackenzie. I've only been to each once though; I dont go to bars too often. My GLBT Friends really like The Saloon though, but I've never been, and some old Co-Workers really like the Happy Hour Bar, but Ive also never been.
>>
>>23538256
Econ and maybe Korean!
>>
Any cyclists ITT?
>>
>>23538272
Oh cool, Hangul is an interesting script, though I admittedly can't read a lick of it. Economics can be interesting too.
>>
>>23538274
I used to a bit. Assuming twin cities for you though
>>
>>23538333
West of the cities but I ride in the cities a lot.
>>
>>23538327
Yeah! It's fun to learn but I'm not very good at it.
>>
>>23538348
I love econ, but not enough to major in it. Good on ya! Here's a question: What was the last book you read for fun?
>>
>>23538400
I'm currently trying to work my way through ASOIAF! What about you?
>>
>>23538411
I'm reading The Ballad of Black Tom. It's a less racist take on Lovecraft's Murder at Red Hook. Not far into it yet. How far are you into ASOIAF?
>>
>>23497674
Eagan too ayy

Can't afford Toppers pizza at Diffley and Lexington :(
>>
>>23538411
>>23538435
I really need to read more, been ages since I've cuddled with a good book. :/
I've been meaning to pick up ASOIAF though, I've heard nothing but good things.
>>
>>23538435
Not too far! :( Reading for fun is hard in college!
>>
>>23538492
I know that feel.
>>23538480
I am also intimately familiar with this feel.

More questions! What is the worst injury you've ever suffered?
>>
>>23538513
I've never really had a bad injury! The worst thing that happened to me most recently was when I was black out drunk and a guy pushed me into a doorknob and gave me a concussion! You?
>>
>>23538533
>when I was black out drunk and a guy pushed me into a doorknob and gave me a concussion!
is someone abusing you anon
This is a safe space you can talk about it here
>>
>>23538513
Just some accidental knife cuts from cooking and plastic models, since I'm a bit of a klutz.

>>
>>23538544
Hahahahaha no just a dumb fuck frat-bro! I could kick his ass if I wanted to! :)
>>
>>23538533
Oh dear! Worst I've had is a tie between breaking both ankles as a baby and burning the skin off my feet as a slightly older baby. I was a deeply irresponsible baby.

>>23538563
Cuts can be so annoying. Lately, I've been getting cuts from cooking as well.

Have you ever been out of the state? If so, would you like to revisit where you've been?
>>
>>23538686
I've been out of the state quite a bit, my sister lives in LA, so I've been out there to visit her a few times, though unfortunately, not as of late, but me and my mom have road trip'd out there a few times. I was also at a convention in Denver back in '14, and in Dallas back in '10, which me and my friends roadtrip'd for. I've also been to NY, FL, and some other places with my family ages ago. I've also been to Canada (Thunder Bay) and Argentina, though I need to renew my passport.
>>
>>23538686
>Have you ever been out of the state? If so, would you like to revisit where you've been?
I just dip to Wisconsin occasionally since its right there other than that not really
>>
>>23538686
I went to China 2 years ago and I would definitely go back! I loved Beijing! I'm the only person in my group who liked it though...
>>
>>23537917

Just FYI, you seem to have left out "pinko."

It's interesting that you described my response as "sass." Do you want to talk about the implications of that word choice?

I understand if you don't. That's why I don't post much in the MN thread, even though I do look for it a lot. People don't really want to talk about things I like talking about.
>>
>>23538854
Sorry to hea-er, read that. What do you like to talk about? Yourself? Life in Minnesota? Your work?

>>23538720
Quite the traveler!

>>23538725
I know people that do that. I actually went to Wisconsin last summer for a tubing trip with roommates.

>>23538785
That's pretty damn cool!

Next question!(I'll stop if folks don't wanna do this. Figured it would relieve boredom moreso than asking folks to kik) What is your favorite rainy day activity? Reading? Going for a walk? Eating a warm meal?
>>
>>23538899
Usually just Netflix and maybe some yummy soup! What about you?
>>
>>23538899
You are so sweet, you communication facilitator, you!

I liked talking with someone who has worked more closely with the Somali immigrant population than I have and I liked hearing his thoughts about his coworkers. Overall, I think I disagree a lot about the role of immigrants in the US, but it was a pretty civil discussion and I enjoyed it.

I do NOT appreciate being insulted, even playfully, because I tried really hard to be polite about disagreeing.

But recently, most people really can't agree to disagree. Or talk about political disagreements in anything like a civil manner. These things are very important to me and I really dislike how shallow the way people talk about politics is right now.

On a personal level, I'm basically an English/film major, I love to dig deep into choices that most people find obvious or unimportant. But I know most people aren't into that image by image, word by word level of dissection.

>>23539011
That's pretty interesting. I wish I knew enough on the topic to have a discussion with you. I really admire people who are passionate about something, or hold deep interest in it. Politics tend to be a slippery issue, I've found. Either apathy or zeal. I actually know a few film majors! Pretty interesting people, in general. You're likely a blast to be around.

>>23538984
On rainy days, I like to come here, actually. I read and listen to slow, sad songs too. Good times.

>>
>>23539011
Yeah, a lot of people hate to agree to disagree these days, and it's quite unfortunate. Of course this is exasperated greatly on the internet, especially on 4chan given it's nature.
>>23538899
I generally just game or work on my plastic models.

>>
>>23539083
what kind of models do you make?

>>23539133
Hahaha ohh I live on University
>>
>>23539140
Mostly gunpla with a few other sci-fi Plamo models, and some 40k orks that are pretty down on the backburner.
>>
>>23539158
nice nice. I'm not familiar with gunpla, but I am familiar with 40k Orks. Mostly due to /v/ and their love of Besiege
>>
>>23539083
Yeah, social media does seems to encourage people to take an uncompromising stance on political issues. I think the same people, if they had to look at individuals they knew, personally, and why they made the decisions they did, would make a different call than they would about an abstract group
>>
>>23539148
oh cool :)

I never post on /soc/. I just want to know if I'm the only person in Winona County who goes on 4chan.

I'm originally from Rochester. Ever since I moved out to a small town in south central, everyone I know in Rochester is either having a mental breakdown, turning into a dick/cunt, or moved away like I did. Maybe I know the wrong people. But the weed is more expensive too.

29/m if it matters.
