A trusty or trustee is a prisoner with special privileges where you are apart from the general population. The trade off is that you do work around the prison (kitchen work, porter work[sweeping and mopping the jail, delivering food], cleaning the offices of the highers up) but only non-violent prisoners are given this opportunity and if it is given new spots don't open up often if they are filled by long term residents(lol)

I've served time as a trusty/trustee and delivered food to the mental health ward for a while. The traps and trannys were either in solitary, medical, or in the mental health ward sealed in a small common area that has single cells that you spend 20 hours in.

Once I was in jail for assault on an officer, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and a host of other charges ( I beat up a cop after he hit my drunk friend while they arrested another guy because he didn't like him. They tazed me off my motorcycle as I tried to flee) and this guy was there for DUI, got released to general pop, got beaten into a coma permenantly blind in his left eye, stitches all over his face. He did nothing, somebody just didn't like him and I guess he looked like a victim to them.
