Stop caring is really it. Took me awhile but i finnally realized it was that simple, nobody cares about you why care about them. Sometimes still behave like an awkward teenager its like i'm watching myself behave that way with no control but its getting better

If they are, try and read their mood. Almost no one actually has a 'resting birch face' generally if someone looks irked, they are. If they don't look standoffish open with a joke that is both relevant to their occupation and not forced. Also try not to be deprecating unless you've done the job. If it's a girl combine a casual compliment with your joke. It's important to mean the compliment though people pick up on it.
If you both are open as you would with any peer or friend, just scale back any crudeness or overly personal stuff, and nuts to any inside jokes obv
