Don't know. Being active I guess. I comment on other peoples pictures and like their pictures, follow them if I like their profile, go to tags that interrest me, make conversation with people I'd like to talk to. I've had the most popular pictures in some tags, I guess a lot of my followers came from those.

How do you go about maintaining a theme? Using the same filter all the time? I'm genuinely curious because I've always loved the way it looks on peoples' profiles, but I've never been sure how it's actually done.

I'm glad you noticed that I have a theme! I'm going for minimalistic and few colors. It limits a lot of what I can upload. No pictures with too many things and no strong colors. I use the filter moon about 40% and then I adjust the contrast, light and power of the colors so I think it looks nice. It can be pretty difficult to maintain. My old theme was so easy, it was toned down, light colors and a purple color over with a focus on cute stuff, but I could post anything with that filter basically.
