Hear me out even if you've never actually played Magic.
If you don't know what it is, look it up, it's fun!
Basically it's an easy way for people to get together and do something fun. If you're bored/lonely it might be a partial fix!
The procedure to play is simple: go to a game store at the appointed time, sign up for a casual 'tournament', play the game, talk to people, make friends, ???, profit.
It's a lot of fun in a really accepting and non-discriminatory environment. People at these events tend to be very very friendly.
Since I don't have any cards any more I've been playing booster drafts. They're really fun and of course you don't need to bring anything with you to participate (except a little bit of money).
For anyone who doesn't know what a booster draft is, you buy 3 packs of cards + entry fee ($15 total), sit at a table with a bunch of other people, and build a small deck out of the 3 packs of cards.
But there's a twist! You have to open one pack at a time, pick one card from it to keep, and then hand the rest of them to a person next to you (and the other person next to you hands you the rest of their cards). And so on until all the cards are picked. So it's basically a game where you have to try to guess what your opponents' strategies are going to be based on the kind of cards they pass to you and at the same time figure out what your own strategy is going to be.
It's also a good way to build your collection of cards to make pre-made decks. Instead of being stuck with whatever random cards happen to be in the packs you buy, you can pick ones that you like.
