Do you have paystubs? There are plenty of payday-loan type places around Seattle. The rates and fees suck but if you're -sure- that it's a one-time thing and you won't have to do the Payday Loan Death Spiral, it isn't a terrible deal. OP sounded desperate! It's better than being stuck with an abusive roomie for at least another month over $300. The $25-30 they'll charge sucks, but it's far from the end of the world IF you're sure you can cover it and not have to take another one. I called it the Payday Loan Death Spiral for a reason.

Payday loans don't care about your credit at all, they just care that you get paid regularly. Usually what happens is you cut them a post-dated check for the full amount due (typically an extra 10-15% if you're borrowing for two weeks), and when payday comes they deposit it. You can see where this can get you into a lot of trouble really quickly if it's not absolutely a one-time float.

I should point out that "higher interest rate" in credit union terms is still really low compared to a payday loan. A credit union might charge you 15-20% per year. A payday loan place will charge you 10-15% per two weeks (over 3500% per year).
