I'm a Ph.D. candidate in ecology. The greenman is a druidic/pagan symbol for keeper of the forest and eternal renewal. The owl is for my pursuit of an education and wisdom. The color in the owl's bowtie is the main color (maroon) of my master and Ph.D. institutions.

Thanks. This one needs another session. It's my favorite sculpture by Rodin. To me, it represents the struggle to attain something you greatly desire (in my case, my Ph.D.). The contortion in the hand embodies the agony and discomfort someone will go through to attain said desire.

A hannya, to those who don't know, is a female consumed by jealousy or obsessions that turns into a demon upon her death.
Although it plays into the whole japanese bodysuit thing, I also have a special liking to hannyas because of the mask itself that is used in plays. It's carved in such a way to convey both of an expression of anger and sorrow, depending on the angle you see it. Kinda hard to show twisting myself sideways to take a pic, but you get the idea.
Plus, although I didn't get it for the meaning behind it, it serves as a nice reminder of what toxic obsessing over certain things can do to a person

This is a tattoo that's very personal to me. It's something only I can understand. It's basically how I see/feel religion in my eyes vs what the world sees/feels.
I know looking at it it doesn't make sense. The triangle shape is from a Christian metal band I enjoy. The 3 notches to me represent The Father, Sun, and Holy Spirit.
From another persons perspective they see the all seeing eye. I also threw in 2 other eyes. I may decide to get this covered up cause I have a sleeve idea in mind, and want it to all be a certain style so it may have to go or be altered in the future.
I have always felt close to nature, having said that I have also always been a gigantic nerd...hah. So this concept came about for me in high school (six years ago) when I started to play d&d. I was immediately drawn to playing a druid and I fell deeply in love with the god Obad Hai. Hence lovely lovely piece that I waited years to get ^.^

Sorry for kind of a long story.
So back in high school I was dealing with a lot of shit because I come from a shit family and my madrigal teacher was there to support me a lot. I even had to stay the night at his place a few times because I had no where to go and he let me, even though he could have gotten in serious trouble.
So fast forward to near the end of senior year, we're all exciting for the up coming competition and graduation and then one day he doesn't show up, and then two days go by with a substitute, and then three. Finally he comes back and announces that his wife had died suddenly a few days ago of a heart attack. Our teacher asked if we'd honor him by singing at her funeral and we sang one of the songs that we happened to be learning for competition because it fit so perfectly. These are two bars from my favorite verse in the song that still really tears me up when I think about it.

She called me one last time and sang it to me as she was in the hospital, followed by 'who am I singing to again? Who is she? I have a grand daughter?'
Getting a half sleeve done. The hearts for this girl I use to know. The nails are the reminder that she was a horrible person and absolutely destructive to my nature.
But the rest of it is basically gonna be the anatomy page for the heart wrapped around my arm, and instead of the names of all the parts its gonna be my personality characteristics.
My dad was a musician, his primary instrument being the guitar. He always used jazz 3 picks and got me into using them as well. When he passed away I got this for a tribute towards him, it's on my left inner wrist. He was 49 and died last year 6 days before his 50th birthday. He was an alcoholic who died from complete organ failure. Miss him a lot. But it is what it is I guess.
