I need to listen to more of iggy pop's solo stuff, I'm a huge fan of the stooges.
I haven't listened to ITAOTS forever, /mu/ and over listening ruined it for me. That said I'd advise you to look beyond that album, they have another album, On Avery Island, and a bunch of small EPs floating around that are worth checking out
>>22866746
I dig post-punk and rap mostly
Been bumpin This lately
>People Under The Stairs - O.S.T.
>Metal Fingers - Special Herbs 9-0
>Black Sabbath - Paranoid
>Joyce Manor - Never Hungover Again
>Depeche Mode - 86-98 singles

also I love depeche mode slightly more then I should
>>22866902
I like Pixies but the others I haven't listed to as much, but Ill check them out
>>22866875
yeah the stooges are awesome i love funhouse and raw power, their debut is pretty cool too, you should listen to lust for life and the idiot. Im going to listen to On Avery Island, /mu/ memed itaots so hard :(

You'd probably dig Nothing, Whirr, Iris and Airs. Maybe Crisis Arm, too.
Kate Bush my god
Pixies give me boner machine
Coleman Hawkins to get me through mornings
Sam Cooke helps with loneliness
Sade for candlelit sensual evenings (should make this actually happen)
>>22866962
your boner got a little machine
>>22866940
"Post-punk" not post-rock
I dislike post-rock man sorry bout that, Depeche Mode is fucking great
>>22866955
>>22866940
Yeah the Pillows are good too.
Here's my specific recommendations.
Pillows - Scarecrow

FIDLAR - Cocaine

The Thermals - Returning to the Fold

>>22866998
wut
>>22867006
He's implying it will take him a couple minutes to get through the list I posted above, you should check it out too.
>>22866942
I would go so far as to say the stooges are a founder of punk or at least seminal to it.
I've heard bits and pieces of both of those albums but have yet to check them out, but I will. (what makes this even more embarrassing to me is that I'm a huge fan of Bowie's Berlin era). And cool. I'd suggesting giving it a full spin through, it goes to some weird places but I kinda like that about it. Also yeah its sad how hard they glommed onto to memeing it
>>22866960
this is going to sound entry level but I'm super into Merzbow, Melt Banana, and Sonic Youth's noisier stuff (though I know techinically that's more veering into noise-rock).
>>22867013
Nice. Check out Prurient and Pharmakon, you'll like them
>>22866981
oh sorry my bad had a brain spaz moment there.
So you mean like Joy Division, Gang of Four, New Order, Talking Heads, Television, Public Image Ltd that kinda thing?

>>22867029
I like stuff like
The Chameleons
Joy Division
Bauhaus
Tears for Fears
The smiths
Mostly stuff like this
I could not get into New Order for some reason nor The Talking Heads , Public Image LTD sounds familiar though I feel like I've heard their stuff but it wasn't enough for me to look for more you know ?
>>22866983
everysong was perf but crystalized so um you single?
>>22867048
>Alien Ant Farm - Movies
Damn son that's old af
Idk Sum 41 - Fatlip?
>>22867057
Yeah at the moment, I've been too busy trying to start a band, you in?
>>22867051
Oh cool. It's okay, I understand, I still think Joy Division are better then New Order.
Also Bauhaus are awesome, I really like The Passion of Lovers.
I also like the Smiths but I never thought of them as post punk, I always found it hard to group them in with any one movement.

4 of the best artist out there.
>tfw everyone loves metal and rock, and ill be alone with my rap taste.
>>22867072
Yeah it's hard to group em at first glance but their style is definitely post-punk , the drums and complimentary guitar to a driving bass makes them post -punk , but and Yeah I just couldn't get into New Order , I feel like Joy Division had me at the first note on Unknown Pleasures and New Order lost me almost immediately
>>22867099
я твaю мaмy вьpoт eбaл :DDDDDDD
>>22867101
Rap is good too, I just prefer the underground rappers. Today's mainstream is a bit repetitive, especially those dance songs like , Milli Wop? And Watch Me Whip Watch Me
Hang Myself
.
>>22867095
Yeah that's good enough, I have an electric triangle ;^).

I'm not posting my number for obvious reasons.
>>22867013
>huge fan of Bowie's Berlin
the idiot is perfect for you, if we are going to talk about proto-punk, what do you think about white light/white heat or velvet underground in general
>>22867101

You obviously didn't even seen my post
Logic and Kendrick are overrated IMO
But them again I'm not really into that kind of rap
I dig more of the backpacker rap stuff
MF DOOM
Capital STEEZ
Joey Badass
Atmosphere
People Under The Stairs
Milo
Gangstarr
I.N.I
A Tribe called Quest
De La Soul
KRS One
Aesop Rock
Blu
LOrange and Kool Keith
>>22867141
I'm American
I'm just learning Russian
>>22867114
that makes sense now that I think about it. Also what's your favorite song by them?
I like Cemetry Gates personally it's just the perfect combo of everything.
And yeah I know exactly what you mean, Joy Division had something that, in my opinion, New Order just didn't
>>22867134

Nah I love the underground rappers, very few that have gone mainstream stay real.
Kendrick is a prime example of someone that got HUGE and still hasn't changed his style, and I respect that.
I love Lupe Fiasco/Logic two of the realest rappers to this day.
>>22867136
Nah man, I always feel like I have to be high to enjoy it and I don't smoke anymore.
>>22867172
fucking disgusting
I've known people like you
>>22867159
How are logic and Kendrick overrated? Because they have blown up? Get out of here with that shit.
If you listen to Kendricks earlier mixes and Logics - Young Sinatra both their flow and styles are exactly the same as they are today.
I can respect your opinion, but to call a good rapper bad because fame is stupid as hell.
>>22867159
With that said, Tribe/Aesop/Joey are legit and I approve your list.
Still tho calling a good rapper overrated is whack.
>>22867185
Lel I didn't say they were bad
I never implied fame had anything to do with it
I just said their overrated ; plus it's an opinion lmao c'mon son
>>22867179
Me too,quite awful desu
You're assuming too much tho, i'm not limited to that
Been listening to
Strawberry Girls - Overrated
Intronaut - Fast Worms
Good Tiger - Snake Oil
Haunted Shores - Norway José
Alustrium - A Tunnel of Eden
>>22867136
I will look into it.
also huge fan of the velvet underground here.
I'd even say white light/white heat is probably their last good album, and obviously the last album to feature their original line up which i don't think is a coincidence.
And I used to have a group of people I knew on a different site who had really solid music taste and they were the ones that recommended me Joy Division. I think I first heard Love Will Tear Us Apart which I liked but then I heard She's Lost Control and that's what made me put on the whole album and experience it.
>>22867206
Too many hipsters that jump all over something because its "mainstream."
Just assumed you were another, my bad.
>>22867166
I'd say This Charming Man , goddamn the guitar riffs in that fuxking song is amazing plus that bass ughhh just everything about it is amazeballs
>>22867093
post more pls n ty
>>22867218
For me it was Love will Tear is Apart that really grabbed me and pulled me into more JD , it wasn't on Unknown Pleasures though , I didn't really like Closer though ;___;
>>22867220
I love that song too, because like you said, it's just plain good.
Also I dig Frankly Mr Shankly it's just so catchy and clever
>>22866918
Bloodhail is one of the best Have a Nice Life songs. and I haven't heard My Dead Girlfriend but that is some good shit my friend
>>22866960
fuckin great gaze recs, Crisis Arm and Nothing tho >>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>22866942
homie i'd suggest Slowdive if you haven't heard already, as well as Ride, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Ringo Deathstarr, True Widow, A Place to Bury Strangers. there are a ton of rly good ones though
i'm just gonna comment artists i've been listening to a lot lately
Pinegrove is currently my favorite band off of Run For Cover right now, and this definitely one of their best songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODrMcL9IaNc
La Bella is a fantastic Latin punk rock/ math rock band from LA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WwL0R3iPzI
been listening to You and I a lot lately esp this song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SicJqAY7mTg
fav Alex G song, think it kinda sucks i can only listen to it from this youtube recording
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnW2x1VZdkY
my cousin showed me this band and it's funny bc he's not into DIY music at all (he listens to radio indie pop) and they've become one of my favorite math rock / "twinkle" bands as of late. all the guitars sound beautiful, and the vocals put them on par with artists like Clever Girl or TTNG honestly. they're called Hikes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNQ5se8kJzo
>>22867219
I am quite late to the hype train, i've been listening to them just in the last 6 months or so despite being a regular on /mu/
Rebecca and Fiona - Machine
Flume - Some Minds
Crystal Castles - Celestica
Iamwhoiamwhoami - clump
The Cure - Siamese Twins
>>22867251
Frankly Mr Shankly captivated me immediately , another great one is Some Girls are Bigger Than Others, holy fuck is that catchy , as much as I love it I wished the subject matter was different
>>22867255
I had a boner for twinkle emo im the past years, check out snowing, midwest pen pals and all that scene
>>22867255
I'm glad you like them lol
Check out one more band: Slowdive
>>22867233
I know I always thought it was weird that Love will tear us apart wasn't on there; not that I'd change anything but it always struck me as odd. I haven't looked into a ton of Joy Division history (though I own the Peter Hook bio Unknown Pleasures).
Also yeah I agree, at the risk of sounding pedantic and hipsterish, Unknown Pleasures was their creative peak in my opinion
Post-rock, jazz, prog, psych rock

>>22867275
yeah that whole album is pretty damn good.
And yeah some girls are bigger then others has a quality riff, but honestly I agree about wishing the subject matter was a bit different.
>>22867283
I know them all! Midwest Pen Pals are beautiful. could never get into Snowing, the vocals always kinda annoyed me. but not a bad band. Sam Rudich is my fav song by them. have you heard Street Smart Cyclist?
this song's such a jam
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBv_Q2-HZc8
also not "twinkle" (well actually, kinda) but from the same scene, this band's lyrics always fucking get me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ySfpOfp6Yk
"Some people make an art of watching life pass by. Not me, I watch the watchers, I'm that far behind. With so much time and effort growing up, you'd think I'd take the time to grow a spine. You would think I would've at least fucking tried."

yeah, Loaded is kinda good nothing bad about it, not their best album imo, Squeeze is like wtf. Have you ever listened to this version Love Will Tear Us Apart? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdmrt72mib0 most people hate it but i just like it (not trying to be contrarian tho, i still like the original) and who are you btw? are you a /soc/ regular? i liked you :3

Yeah I feel you there.
Oh I think I heard that version before, its awesome, and way more post-punk sounding then the single version. Also did you hear that version of Love Will Tear Us Apart that supposedly had Bowie on vocals? it was totally a fake but I must admit I fell for it, just because i wanted to be real so badly.
And I'm a regular, albeit not a popular one. (I'm that girl everyone keeps mocking for being fat i.e. fat dyke (though only the first part of that is accurate).
oh and yeah the Queen is Dead is excellent too, full of songs that stick in your head.

plz marry me and make prog-loving babies with me
or if dude then we can still marry for tax purposes
and buy a 3rd world baby and raise it on the classics
we can live on a farm and grow all sorts of psychedelic plants and live happily until we die in peace

This album changed my life

Figure I'll post some stuff most people haven't heard. You may recognize this band from the SEGA game Jet Set Radio Future. They're called Scapegoat Wax
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRWohFR1QVE
I love me some basic white girl music.
The Strokes are my shit just because I'd literally suck the life out of Julian Casablancas through his dick. If he strangled me while fucking me out of consciousness I'd die happy.
Also love me some Saint Motel, General Elektriks, Fetty Wap when I'm feeling like a trap queen and Regina Spektor.
If you're in the 317 go to a strip club with me and let's make out over lap dances, ya dig?
Bloc party
Would anyone be interested in listening to my band and giving an honest critique? It is a metal band with some southern influence on the music and I have grunge/nü influence in my singing and lyrical style.

Hello, everyone. If I listen to any of this anywhere people are present where I live, I always get called a hippie (not a hipster). That may be primarily because I'm a long-haired guy, but I don't know.
Sometimes I just shuffle my entire library, and then I'm convinced I don't have any kind of taste in music.

Cocaine part 2 is really where it's at.
Really been into psychedelic/garage rock shit lately.
The Orwells
Mac Demarco
FIDLAR
The Black Angels
Dabble in some metal such as The Acacia Strain and Thy Art Is Murder.
Always keep the favorites around though... Bad Books, Queens of the Stone Age, and Father John Misty.
My current favorites
replaying mbv's When You Sleep over and over again
I'm also really into musicals but I feel like it doesn't fit the feel of this thread. Ah, well.

Will post lots more if anyone is interested :)

Kappa gamma - just another
Jake bugg- trouble town
On a fucking HUGF doom metal kick at the moment, been jamming a bunch of Electric Wizard & Horn of the Rhino
>>22887750
I was just about to post this shit here too, doom metal. Upside down cross are the bees knees, almost too offensive to listen to I love it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5-f25Y9CWLU
>>22887750
I wish I was you desu electric wizard is entry level stuff and you have a world of discovery before you :3 l m a o
>>22887753
I've been listening to doom metal for about 7 years, EW remain one of my absolute favourites.
>>22887758
That's good,I still have the same love for them they just don't dominate most of my music time like they did when I first found them. I saw them this year but ended up getting kicked out for smoking weed inside, it was a pretty stupid thing to do but getting kicked out for smoking weed an an electric wizard concert seems absurd. You'll like this if you don't already know it :) https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xBx3trwRbtc
