Related: my little brother is an army dude and just finished applying for active duty. I hate the army but I love my brother. He's like my best friend. That being said, our family is a bit fucked up so we all find our own ways to deal. Even though he was a good student (I was the fuckup) he didn't know what he wanted to do after hs so he went to basic. Turns out he loved it. He was a skinny and shy dude but now he's fitter, happier, more productive. It seems the army is sort of his way of dealing with the world being a tough place to kids like us who weren't given trust funds or any handouts. I'm sad to see him go though. When he left for basic, I got severely depressed and didn't come out of my room for an entire month.

Army uses majority ordinance.
Army Ordinance is the least used corps in the current military.
Navy currently has the highest used ordinance cops, along with drone strikes, air strikes, air assaults.
All those videos you see of random x village being hit with artillery.
I'd say 9/10 Navy, if not Airforce.
Army spent most of its time in Afghanistan the last 10 years trying to create an infrastructure via engineering corps.
Special Operations was the second most used corps by Army and it's job was mostly education.

I mean I don't like how it reinforces the macho attitude in most people (there are 3 of these guys I see every week, one of which is a huge biker-looking father and another of which is a skinny nerd, and they all say edgy shit but whatever, it's not hurting anyone), and it seems like the people who come out of the military harmed are hidden from the public eye, especially the young amputees who are in their 20s.
Makes me sad that my brother is about to go into active duty. My ex-gf whom I still respect is in AIT right now but she's not planning to go active.
All that being said, I hope you end up all right. As much as I don't like the idea of the military, I can't stand seeing anyone go through shit they don't deserve. My gripes are with the system, not so much the people.
