In 2011 there were over 100 tripfags and growing. /soc/ was quickly one of the most popular boards on 4chan. moot then got butthurt there was board culture here so he removed trips.
In 2012 a girl named surf rejected moot and made fun of him so he permanently removed names.
/soc/ then slowly devolved into a porn and camsex board over the next 3 years.

Yeah... sadly. I'm pretty new, but I've dipped into the archives a few times. /soc/ as it is now pales in comparison to the old /soc/.
It stems from a myriad of things, really. Moot being a faggot being one of the first problems. People giving up on /soc/ being a second one. Tumblr is one of the major newer problems, due to filling people's heads with certain... ideas.
And then lastly, newer generations of people seeping into the board, not caring about quality, just looking for a fuck, which scares off people of any quality and leaves us with a seething pit of shitty degenerates that are worse than /d/ and /pol/.
