Be sure you know what you want to do with that before you go... there are four kinds of POLS people: uber activists that would be better served going into another major to support their goals (like philanthropy), pre-law without being pre-law, those looking to do public service (similar to #1 but working for the man) and then the small group that wants to teach, go on to grad school, and be a professor/researcher at the college level. If you're looking to do primary/secondary education, going the "education" route and specializing in social sciences might be more useful (otherwise you get stuck teaching US government forever... and that blows even as a TA).
If you like history, stay in history; it's a big component of POLS, but most people don't realize that most of upper division political science, particularly international relations and comparative politics for say, IPE, is a metric shit ton of statistics and math. Not only that but if you're looking to do the Ph.D thing, the top 10 schools have a monopoly on 50% of the tenure track positions once you get it.
BUT! In response to >>21595367 if you actually do get into real POLS classes (the 300 person intro classes don't actually expose you to anything real anyway and nobody knows what they're talking about) at the junior/senior level at least in undergraduate stuff, you get like 10-20 person classes at most good universities that narrow that shit down, start using a bigger seminar system, and actually teach you something. Yeah, you'll always run into the assholes starting their presidential campaigns and having a political stick shoved up their asses, but they're usually the most fun to play with.
