I'm rereading The Red and The Black.
Julien Sorel is probably the closest character to my own self that I can find in any literature. The way Stendhal describes him with all his brilliant psychology always hits home. It was such a treat to read a few years ago, now it's even more so.
Funny how someone who knew English and liked anagrams, like Stendhal, could read Sorel as Loser. In a way that poor thing was quite the loser and the antihero.
Here are one of my favourite lines which have been with me for years.

Stendhal also foretells the future of Julien in one of the early chapters by a clever anagram and a hint. I missed this until now, having read it in English. It wasn't as obvious as it was in Latvian translation.

One of the greatest books ever written and possibly the dearest, most personal book to myself, even more personal than the Sorrows of the Young Werther or Martin Eden. I love that book. If I want to take something with me if in my grave, it is that book and nothing else. If I'm to die tomorrow and be executed, I'll be happy if I get to read it for one last time.

I recently finished Tales of H.P. Lovecraft, and let me tell you I was enamored. I would only read it during certain mindsets when the imagery and tone would impact me the most. Having just read the final words last night; and holy hell the man left a blueprint for how to write the way he did.
As for poetry. I haven't read much but I do write it from time to time when the mood strikes. I usually read either quotes or entire books.

You might like "The Mysterious Stranger" by Mark Twain. It's incomplete, and the 1917 edition, iirc the release date correctly, has some independent additions by the editor, but it doesn't differ much from the original, but also incomplete manuscripts. The subject of the novel is a visitation of the Satan. He is completely amoral, therefore cannon act in a good or evil way. I read it as a critique of morality and in a way, there is a Nietzschean strain. I'm not sure if Twain read him. I haven't read rest of Twain, but from what I understand it is very different from everything else he has written. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

It is called a New Living Translation, It just happens to be the "copy" I own. As it was given to me by a relative I have always felt a certain duty to one day read it haha. Right now I'm doing a bit of literary jumping around, I have an anatomy book, a cook book, and a wilderness survival book up next. At a certain point I plan on returning to each book and using it as a template to further explore it's own genre or field.

But besides that there are some books which Protestants use but Catholics don't; then there are Orthodox Bibles and their canon is different; it can vary a lot, so I recommend looking at what is considered canon. Then there is apocrypha like Book of Enoch. There are also gnostic books which are very different mainstream Christianity, e.g. Nag Hammadi library. Scholarship for Bible and Christianity is enough for a whole lifetime.

so literally the night after oso was put down, this black cat that he fuggin hated came up to me as soon as I got out of my car from work. I sat on the back porch for a very long time, drinking beer and just thinking, and the cat chilled with me the whole time and sat in the same spot oso would sit in when he was hanging out on the porch. the lil cat even sat in the same style as the dog, and he kinda stared out into the yard just like oso would do (pic related). it wasn't scared of me or anything, and it would be really cute every time I went to go pet it. It might just be that most countries think there formula is better than the next, or that calculates all the factors more accurately than the other. There could be thousands of reason why. But I just feel like the metric system should be used mainly for larger objects, like measuring a ship or something on that line.

Hell I've panic'd while swimming in someone's man made pond/small lake in the middle of the night, to be fair they use to have an alligator before they killed it so that was in the back of my head the whole time. Also it was a huge fuqqin hole that was about 40+ feet deep all the way around, no shallows. Just this floating dock out in the middle you can climb on. Took me forever to get the stones to swim back to shore that night kek

I actually like ponds, lakes and rivers, I feel much more comfortable there. Then again we don't have alligators or crocodiles. I actually like if the lake is deep all around, I hate swimming and trying the ground with my feet to see if there is any floor.
