Can Michael Spivak's 'Calculus' book be used by someone who is terrible at Maths as an entry point into Calculus?

>someone who is terrible at Maths
if you keep telling yourself this, no book will help you.

You aren't bad at math, you just havent practiced enough. Maybe try a lighter calculus text, something stupid like stewart, just to get used to doing the operations and the train of thought you need to have. after that, hop right into spivak

Trust me dude, I've been trying for three years to get a hang of Maths. I love the subject but I'm close to just accepting it.

Yo, going to college in like a month. We can have pets, but only aquarium pets.

What are some good and cool looking fish/shell fish, I can put in an aquarium? Scientifically tho.

Don't do it OP. You'll get drunk in the first week and pour vodka into the tank as a joke or drunkenly stumble into it and smash the glass. I've seen both happen.

For some reason I read that as "we only have adamantium pets". And I was like, "Why."

Not really. You're always old, and you're always young. Until you get into your 90's and early 100's. Then you know very few people exist to consider you young.

Yes, it's the age when you stop understanding the new dank memes kids are using.

Can anyone tell me why is my homemade electrolysis happening so slowly? I've poured a metric fuckton of sugar and stirred vigorously, connected batteries ranging from 1.5 to 9 volts, got some good wires, and after an hour all I got is a 4mm bubble of gas and a very hot battery.

I'm still trying to wrap my mind on what a confidence interval supposed to be.

Say for example the mean height for all males on my campus is 6' with a standard deviation of 1" the 95% confidence interval would be (5'10", 6'2")

Does that mean "we actually don't know what the mean value is, but we are 95% sure is it in this interval" ?

>>
95% confidence is 2 standard deviations for a normal distribution.

We are 95% confident that the population mean ยต lies between 5'10" and 6'2".

You are estimating population parameters with sample statistics. The part about not knowing the true value of population parameters is implicit.
>>
>>7703576

>Does that mean "we actually don't know what the mean value is, but we are 95% sure is it in this interval" ?

Yes. When you expand the confidence interval to 98%, 99% or even 99.9%, this results in your interval being wider because you're more sure that the mean falls within that range.

>>7703599
This.
>>
>Does that mean "we actually don't know what the mean value is, but we are 95% sure is it in this interval" ?
No. Confidence intervals as people usually describe them are frequentist constructs, and belief or surety does not enter the picture. You can construct confidence intervals for Bayesian estimates but usually if you're talking about a Bayesian CI then you're specific that it's a Bayesian metric.

In this case, a 95% confidence interval describes a relationship between the sampling distribution and the...

Wade, Clayden, Solomon, whatever. It doesn't actually matter too much, you just need to keep doing practice problems (I really like the problems in Bruice). Please don't shit up the thread asking for textbook recommendations.

I second this. If you were meant to understand orgo, you would've crawled out your mother's snatch expounding on the relative merits of lithium, boron, titanium, tin and zirconium enolates in carbon nucleophile reactions instead of whining like a little bitch.

What's exactly wrong with this? I feel like the concepts are fairly straightforward in orgo, like they just build off of simple concepts from general chemistry. Well, except for MO theory.

/sci/ is the only board that has any taste. I need some smaller supplementary gifts for my girlfriend's christmas. She's an English teacher and desu she spends all of her time at home in her reading chair by the fireplace in the winter, and on her porch in the summer. She hardly uses most of her house, or any of the space I could get her something to fill. It just seems trivial to get her anything and it makes things very difficult for me. I'm building her a book shelf because she needs one since moving earlier this year, and I've gotten her a couple of books...

I love NASA with a passion but I feel that their focus is too spread out on stuff that isn't that important

I think they should stick to three main priories:

1. Getting Humans to Mars - achieving this would be one of the greatest accomplishments of Mankind

2. Study Europa - we need a probe that can get beneath the ice and search the ocean, I bet you anything there are fish, tube worms and algae down there. Discovering life beyond earth would be the greatest discovery of all time.

3. Exo Planets - NASA should be looking for relatively close planets...

NASA isn't going to do any of that. Blue Origin and Space X and other growing companies will, but slowly.

The budget for NASA is too low to do any of it. They can't even keep the ISS running properly how do you expect them to get to Mars.
>>
Getting humans to Mars isn't a scientific concern, it is a technological

NASA is first and foremost a scientific research establishment so they will prioritise study of the deep cosmos over the technical mundanities of setting up a human base on Mars.

This should be reassuring though because it shows that Mars is already within our capabilities, we just have to make it happen through the public sector/capitalism.

>1. Getting Humans to Mars - achieving this would be one of the greatest accomplishments of Mankind
NASA doesn't nearly have the budget for that.

>2. Study Europa - we need a probe that can get beneath the ice and search the ocean,
Pretty sure that;s on the todo list. But it would need both lots of money and the right orbital alignment.

I've got evidence that a select group of dogs have the ability to compare colors equally or better than humans. I may need to do more research and put out a thesis.
