Why do STEM majors, not related to computer science, need to learn programming? I had to take a programming course based on C++, why?

Because a lot of sciency stuff is made of boring and repetitive tasks that can be more easily and efficiently accomplished by a computer program. Also, simulations.
Anyway programming is damn easy, I don't know why someone would complain about that.

So 2 years ago I fucked up real bad, and dropped out of school temporarily b/c of some alcohol + drug problems.
I got clean, and since then I have been working as hard as I possibly can to do well and fulfill my dream of working for the ESA. I might even get into Cambridge if I can secure an A* in Further Maths (!!!).
But... i think its making all my old friends hate me. I just had this conversation with one of my friends...
