Why does infrared EM radiation feel warm on my skin, but blue or green visible light from an LED, even a strong one, does not feel warm on my skin?
I'm interested in ops question as well..bump
If a bunch of people jump into a pool one by one, they're going to significantly shake up the water. If you get them to all jump in at the same time, you're going to have a decent amount of water ejected from the pool, and then it's no longer shaking. Or if you drop a car into the pool, same thing happens.
There is such a thing as too much energy. With atoms and molecules, the energy that causes jiggling is easier to absorb than the energy that causes significant changes like the ejection of an electron, or the changing of electronic states. What you feel...

ignore this guy. its flat out wrong.
my sense is its to do with intensity. a toaster/oven uses >300 watts but leds are <10 I think.
might also have something to do with biology but thats not my field. high intensity visible/ultraviolet causes sunburns/cancer but you dont feel it.
woman falls 10 kilometers OR 6 miles, out of an airplane and survives.
How is this possible ?

You wish it was that simple, kid.
The airplane is in orbit and she is just orbiting for 10km
I think I finally understand probability.
Everything has a 50/50 chance of happening. Either something happens or it doesn't, 50/50. A dice might roll on a certain number or it won't, 50/50. Literally everything can be deduced to 50/50 probability in life.

Either I will die someday or I will live forever. 50:50
>>7784170
Actually, the chance of you living forever is really small.
You have a 50% chance of living today and a 50% chance of dying. Tomorrow the same so your chance of living are 0.50 to the power of the number of days you plan to live.
If you plan to live infinitely then your chance is infinitesimal.
So apparently matrices work like intended on /sci/ now. [eqn]\begin{bmatrix}1 & 2 & 3 \\ 1 & -4 & 6 \\ 3 & -9 & -3 \end{bmatrix} = \begin{bmatrix} 1 & 0 & 0\\ 2 & -8 & 0 \\ 3 & -15 & -12 \end{bmatrix} \begin{bmatrix}1 & 2 & 3\\0 & 1 & 0\\ 0 & 0 & 1\end{bmatrix}[/eqn] Discuss
It has been that way for at least a coupe months.
entry (2, 1) in the matrix on the left should be = 2, not 1

Sumimasen, senpai. I have failed. Sudoku is the only option at this point.
Should I join Mensa? I tested high enough but I don't want to pay. Are there any benefits to it? I dont give two shits about socializing.
>>7784058
Who needs mensa when you have /sci/?
>>7784059
You can't put /sci/ on your resumé.
>>7784061
You can't? Shit. I guess I know why Fermilab didn't accept my application.

So, fellow /sci/entists, which program do you use to plot your data for publications?

Why not make the pizza a different shape in the first place? Ovens are mostly square/rectangle anyway.
>>7783773
Because people want to maximise the pizza to crust ratio.
>>7783773
That's called a Sicilian pie friend.
I've never been to a pizzeria that doesn't sell them (in NYC).

Is a scientist with an interest in art less intellectual than a pure scientist because the former wastes time with non-science? Assuming both have the same IQ.
no, just because someone doesn't devote all of their time to science and math doesn't mean anything about their intelligence. In fact, studies have shown that people who take an interest in art have a higher-than-average intelligence.
>>7783294
OP stated both are equally intelligence. His question is about intellectualism. Nice reading comprehension, brainlet.
Is the Universe infinite? Show your work.
The space that holds the matter is infinite by definition. The matter inside is finite.

How can space exist if it's not matter?
>>7783225
That's like asking, how can energy exist if it isn't matter? The point is, it is 'something', an undefinable something.
If this IQ test is so accurate, why did I score 96 on my first try and 132 on my second?
Pic related.

I told you 500 times, take the official Mensa test you retard. Solving some crappy online math test won't make you a math genius either.

Is it possible to build something which could reach space (or almost) for under $15,000? What would that be?
Reach "space" yes, reach orbit no.
