I'm writing an abstract for a research proposal and my PI told me to include something about Detailed Characterization. I didn't want to ask her what that was, because I'm sure she already thinks I'm stupid. So I come to you for help.

If it involves some kind of biochemistry/biology then 'detailed characterization' likely means that working out the structure of some macromolecule like a protein was an important part of the project.
Read some abstracts of papers previously published by your PI.

Alright /sci/, I am looking to get into mathematics that is oriented toward cryptography. Understanding discrete mathematics that would be relevant, and things such as SHA, MD5, and Blowfish etc.

Take a number theory course first. Basically all we did in mine was stuff with modular arithmetic and then we touched on some more abstract number theory using groups

So, is it possible to dump nonessential cortical functions and repurpose the relevant brain sectors for extra cognitive ability?
Would you achieve a 1:1 performance gain from the recruited brain sectors or would there be some inefficiency due to them being specialised for a task other than what they're being used for?

Brain regions are not just generic cpus you can arbitrarily subdivide and repurpose for other tasks, many are quite specialized in their arrangement and have a limited spectrum of usefulness. Some can learn to perform different functions over time, some cannot.
You also have to consider what is connected to what, the layout of white matter tracts, how this relates to the whole, etc. Look into pyramidal cells is you want a starting point to see what I mean.

Mine was 132 when I was in 4th grade. Never had it checked after that. I had to attend some shitty gifted class. Three was only 3 of us in it. It consisted of typing games on some apple computer (early 1990s.) Turns out the class was a joke and only existed to get money kickbacks for the sports department.
One other kid I went to school with had an IQ of 200. Only....he was the worst social reject you've ever seen. 0 friends, awkward as fuck, highly autistic-acting, 0 social skills, completely worthless...
