You're a fucking moron. DNA would be too damaged, or non-existent.

Step 1: Build a device that allows you to travel to another dimension where the laws of physics make that possible.

Step 2: Ask the people there how they do it.

>In the South Seas there is a cargo cult of people. During the war they saw airplanes land with lots of good materials, and they want the same thing to happen now. So they've arranged to imitate things like runways, to put fires along the sides of the runways, to make a wooden hut for a man to sit in, with two wooden pieces on his head like headphones and bars of bamboo sticking out like antennas—he's the controller—and they wait for the airplanes to land. They're doing everything right. The form is perfect. It looks exactly the way...

Nobody said they are. To the best of their knowledge these are the actions which are required for an event to happen. Rain dances, hunting rituals, animal sacrifice, all early pseudo-scientific attempts at understanding the world. Even the Mayan calendar is pseudo-scientific. The act of counting days between eclipses, full-moons, etc, while it may allow for prediction of future events, does not get into the process of what causes a full moon or an eclipse. But one can say these are essential steps in the evolution of...

1. Checked

2. Landing the first stage on a drone ship in the ocean, successfully, would be a monumental step forward in the quest for cheap spaceflight.

But unless you’re the kind of rabid physics fan who’s seen her papers on semiclassical Virasoro symmetry of the quantum gravity S-matrix and Low’s subleading soft theorem as a symmetry of QED (both on approaches to understanding the shape of space and gravity and the first two papers she ever authored), you may not have heard of Pasterski. A first-generation Cuban-American born and bred in the suburbs of Chicago, she’s not on Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram and doesn’t own a smartphone. She does, however, regularly update a no-frills website called PhysicsGirl, which...

Give it to me straight. How many hours of *hard* work do smart people do per week? And by hard work I mean stuff like mathematics / CS / physics / STEM academia (or even programmers outside of academia or smart people in general), which require stuff like mathematical knowledge, creativity, trial and error, the whole deal.

I see varying things. By default people say lots of work. But poincare did 4 hours a day of according to wikipedia. Marx worked from 9 to 7 at the british library and then more at home.

And when I think about the schedules of professors they...

Well, let me tell you about my friend, one of the top 12 british mathmaticians atm

He only works, per se, like 4 hours a day - he goes into work monday to friday, but he mostly answers emails and discusses problems with other mathmaticians.

Thats it.

But the key is what you spend your free time on - my friend has like 20 hours of free time a week, but he does his maths for fun. For him, it is free time, and as a result although he technically only works a few hours a day, he is doing maths effectively every waking moment without pause because its fun for...

how to deal with rubberbanding selfesteem?

half the people i interact with are way lazier and dumber than me - if I have to work with them my confidence goes sky high.

the other half are much, much smarter than me, and talking to them makes me feel like an idiot braggart.

I literally dont know anyone who is at my level, so to speak, and as a result i dont know how smart I am. Am I an idiot with delusions of grandeur or a smart dude with shitty selfesteem? Do i need to push myself harder?

Good discrete math books?

Let's just go ahead and solve all of these threads at once:

>go to well regarded university's website
>navigate to math homepage
>find course listing
>click on course of choice
>read page to find the textbook they use
>>
>>7783321
Mathematical entities are indispensable to our best scientific theories, therefore we should think of them as real
>>
>>7783321
If you want to study in advance for a particular course you should probably use the book the course uses

discrete math is a usually a potpourri of random shit, although with a big chunk of combinatorics; topics covered vary a lot.

Are there any physical laws that are exact? How can we know if one is?

To clarify, I mean without taking into account universal constants that we only know approximately, and given the perfect situation in which the laws are (supposed to be) valid.

For example, we know Newton's 2nd law is only an approximation valid for low velocities, but if we consider relativity, can't the v^2/c^2 term in the gamma factor not possibly be v^2.0001/c^0.0001?

>Are there any physical laws that are exact

That's not the point of physics.

But from (unprovable) symmetry: conservation of linear momentum, conservation of angular momentum, and conservation of energy are absolute.

>>

measure displaced volume.

>>
>>7783037
The actual volume/size of the universe, as it was pre-inflation. I'm not talking about "it was smaller than an atom!", I'm talking about some way to measure it relatively to something that isn't affected by inflation; a constant.

After that you can determine and possibly predict the rate of inflation. When you find that inflation variable, you can also determine the exact limit of the speed of light, for an example, since what we currently have as C is scaled up as space inflated.

Is there a way I could be genetically enhanced to increase my intelligent and other features?

not unless you're a very early fetus + science is not nowhere that for (and even if it would be, it would probably considered "unethical" by some dirty liberal hippies)

Yeah, a highly complex trait like that is going to be on one gene. Sure, m8.

Are there any health benefits to losing a pint of blood once in a while?
8 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
If you've got hereditary hemochromatosis you sure need to. Your body doesn't get rid of excess iron properly. You need to bleed it out.

That's a genetic disase that affects about 0.5% of Northern Europeans. It only kills people slowly and conveys resistance to certain infections, so it may have been much more common in the past, after epidemics killed most of the people with a normal iron metabolism, possibly explaining why bloodletting was such a popular thing.
>>
>>7782791
donating blood reduces blood viscosity by removing some of the iron

No. Only if you have hemochromatosis or polycythemia vera.
