Because Heisenberg's uncertainty principle, how would you know they are moving or not moving, they could be moving and not moving at the same time. They are there, they may not be there. They can be everywhere at the same time, do you understand? You've brought this upon yourself, you've brought quantum mechanics into this.

It's called a *convention* for a reason. It affects nothing and everyone uses it.

>>7789767
Much like how the geocentric model was a convention that everybody used affecting nobody.

Relative to an external observer circle A revolves 4 times because circle A's centre is also rotating, relative to Circle B circle A revolves 3 times as circle A's centre is stationary. Clearly the answer is either 3 and 4, and in this case 3 is an acceptable choice as 4 is not presented.

Thinking comparatively to genes, in what way could a meme be classified as fit within its environment?
Could we build a model to find which memes are most fit and use it to usher in a new decade of incredibly dank memes?

>>
If a meme is the social equivalent of a gene, then imagemacros are really more than just a singular meme, it seems like they are the social equivalent of an organism with many memes describing it.
It's easier to measure the fitness of an organism than it is to determine the cause of its fitness.

Solve this without using a calculator.
>A) Every day 5 winners are chosen with a pool of 2000 people.

>B) Every week 35 winners are chosen from a pool of 8500 people.

>C) Every month 150 winners are chosen from a pool of 44000 people.
As a participant, in which option do you have the highest chance of winning?
2 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>7789574
Assuming nobody is a winner twice, A by a long shot

everyone wins in A in about 400 days =~ 1 year
everyone wins in B in about 250 weeks =~5 years
everyone wins in C in about 300 months = ~25 years

normalized by multiplying by 44000/n, values are
A) 22 years/Cperson
B) 25 years/Cperson
C) 25 years/Cperson

50 KB,
I've been a Kurzweil follower for a long time. How many /sci/entists are true believers that we'll reach AI in 2029 and quickly reach the singularity soon thereafter? I live in Silicon Valley and there are still so many people that are blind here. If you are actually a true believer, how do you cope?

The notion that we might pierce the veil of reality in a continuous arc from our current consciousnesses has caused me to go a little bit insane. It makes the universe so much more mysterious and my life seem so much weirder.

WHY ME. WHY SHOULD ANY OF US...

Afford what? Strong AI? Immortality? You have no idea how much money I have anyway :333

Anyway, I believe that we will become quasi communists and roughly equally divide the value of the gains discovered by the strong AI explosion. If we don't, I'll be among the first to rebel against those who think they deserve to hoard the value from strong AI.

Is there a good book on physics for someone self-teaching themselves that explains all the principles in a simple manner, basic stuff?

I'd like a book that contains mechanics to nuclear physics basics, basically HS physics. I'm currently doing Khan only, wanna expand a bit.

can we rigorously prove that their sum and product are transcendental? better yet, can we prove that they HAVE to be transcendental if pi and e are?

This is still an unsolved problem. However it IS known that π + eπ, πeπ and eπ√n are all transcendental.

wobble.png
195 KB,
Looking at the moon in Celestia and I found this little wobble in its orbit. The red arc is the moon's path and the lower blue arc is the Earth's path. Probably hard to tell from the image, but the wobble is directly beneath (I guess "beneath" doesn't have much meaning in space) the Earth's path.

Anyway, is this just a bug in the software or does the moon's orbit actually dip in like that?
