Do grills that are good at math or physics physically attract you?
It's usually the tits.
>>7830550
As if that snorlax looking female would attract me.
>>7830550
If they were good at physics they would figure out ways to physically attract whatever they want.
How many watermelons are here?
0, that's just a photograph of watermelons, not actual watermelons.
>>7827653
There are four 3/4 of watermelons and four 1/2 watermelons.
You don't pick your parents, you don't pick your genes, you don't pick the environment in which those genes were expressed, you don't assemble the micro and macro structures of your brain which decide every conscious and unconscious action you will make in your 2.5 billion seconds of life, you don't choose the thoughts in which you think.
What makes you think you have any free will whatsoever.

Faggot.

>>7825360
it's not like we are trapped in our bodies, we are our bodies, so the result of our thought processes is our free will. It's not free from the laws of nature, but then nothing is, so it's pointless to expect somethign else.
You expect some kind of divine/transcendent qualities for free will, but that isn't a necessity at all.

Does anyone have the paper? Still can't believe the cat sees us as big cats
>>7824438
It is from 1999, I coud not find a digital version.
But it is a legit Berkley experiment.

Did they comment on that big cats thing? Is it an accepted fact that I wasn't aware of?
why do amerifats call maths or mathematics math?

It is a singular subject. Do you call biology "biologies"?

I never took mathematic.

Seriously? Is this level of hand holding actually real for engineering courses?
Both my math graduation projects are individual. I guess only some majors can be trusted as adults with responsibility, work ethic and intelligence.

A train originally has no passengers on it.
The train stops at villages [math]v_1, v_2, v_3, \ldots [/math] respectively.
At each village, 2 people board the train and 1 person gets off.
After visiting all the villages [math]v_i[/math], the train gets to village [math]v_\omega[/math]. How many people are on the train at that point?
______________
Side-note: If you don't believe the train ever gets to village [math]v_\omega[/math], think of village [math]v_i[/math] as being at location [math]\frac{2^n-1}{2^n}[/math] on the real number line,...

There are two types on infinity - countable and uncountable. Your thought experiment relates to the countable type.
Watch from the 2 minute mark; or watch it all, its an interesting video.

So what's the answer then?
>>7815585
The answer is that you don't understand infinity well enough to ask a coherent question.
Why the fuck is there so much "prestige" associated with Med students?

"I'm a Med student in "what the fuck?" University

I know M.D. Programmes are not easy but come on.

Nobody has any kind of understanding of what a doctor of physics does. And a lot of them who do simply do not see it as important as what doctors do. On the other hand, everyone has seen a doctor. Everyone has seen how one of them 'saved' their lives or maybe someone else they know.
However, there is an underlying question here.

So due to the theory of special relativity, the speed of light in vacuum, c ~= 3x10^8 m/s is the fastest speed possible, but emitted photons do not accelerate up to that speed right? It's just an instantaneous electromagnetic wave. I know that photons can be affected by gravity which gives them acceleration ( change direction of velocity), but I'm talking about when an excited electron returns to its ground state by emitting a photon, the photon just appears i to existence already going at the speed of light. Is this correct?

So we have yet to come in to contact with aliens. I do believe they exist.( virtually impossible for them not to) but what if they don't exist... Yet. There has to be a first everything. What if it is us?
>>7812048
What if we're the aliens? Why don't you go fuck yourself.
>>7812052
Well we are technically aliens to life forms not from earth.
>>7812052
He's saying what if we are the first intelligent life to form and there's have yet to form.
Why haven't we discovered any traces of intelligent life yet? The universe is billions of years old has trillions of stars with quadrillions of planets. Finding life in the universe should be like finding life in the ocean. You shouldn't even need to look for it, it should be right there. The universe should be filled with intelligent radio signals or advanced civilizations manipulating stars or large artificial structures like Dyson Spheres or have ANY sign that there is something intelligent out there. But there isn't a single thing. Why?
>>7808308
Fermi Paradox.
My guess is that civilized, industrialized, evolved species burn out with the span of a few centuries. Nuclear war, resource depletion, ect. They burn bright like a spark and die out quick like a spark.
Given the geological age of the universe, it'd be like winning the lottery to find another intelligent alien race.
Also, the gold standard for detecting alien civilizations is RADIO broadcasts. Why the fuck would advanced aliens still use plaintext, uncompressed radio signals?
>>7808308
>everything you said
and then you realize how complex the universe is.

>>7808308
We are one star in hundreds of billions.
We have only had the tech to listen to radio signals barely more than a century.
We have only put radio dishes up to point at the sky less than a century ago.
Either the pings hit us at a time where we were unable to recieve them, we misinterpreted them, or they just haven't gotten to us yet.
Keep in mind that the nearest star is also a bit more than 4 light years away.
there's also a language barrier, even in the way our computers would interpret the...

Quick question. My 8 year old daughter just got this homework. I would appreciate it, if an adult can solve it and tell me how long it took. I don't want your answer just how long.
>>7817607
I'm a maths major, so don't take this as how long it should take your daughter or you, obviously. It took me about 5 minutes laying in bed, doing it in my had. I checked afterward to make sure my answers were correct as well. With a code, I could do this in a minute flat. It's definitely easier to do as a brute force problem, because any other way requires a level a critical thinking that is outside of most people's comfort zones.
It's a good problem in my opinion, and it encourages...

Don't worry, Uranus was supposed to be named George in honor of King George III, by its discoverer Herschel. And Neptune was supposed to be named Le Verrier. We all know how that turned out
