I cannot graduate community college, never mind university, without passing/and or showing proficiency in intermediate algebra.

I took pre-algebra, failed it in 7th grade, took algebra 1 in 8th -- failed it too, and took algebra 1 again in high school and got passed on a C after having a math tutor do all my homework in class, and letting me cheat on the exam (this is a charter school, only way that could've happened).

I start taking community college classes. Had an accident one year into CC; mild brain injury, migraines, tremors, anxiety. Took me 4 years,...

The only advice I can give is practice. Have you checked Khan Academy?

Algebra is pretty mechanical, so yeah, practice like hell. And check Khan Academy.

Yes, there are many applications for such a thing.

Is the indeterminism in QM relevant to the question of free will?
Isn't the indeterminism going away on neuron-level, and even if, how should we able to control the indeterminism?

No, free will is a function of the brain.

There are so many, should I follow one of the premade lords, and if yes, which one, or should I just make up my own definition of the lord?

a focused beam of plasma would require a metric fuckton of energy to produce, however if it could be sustained some advantages include:

Was debating someone on whether or not there were inherent physiological differences between the male and female brain. Looking to be informed on whether or not there has been any trusted studies on this, and if I am wrong in saying men and women are inherently different in terms of brain chemistry. This (http://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/confirmed-theres-no-such-thing-male-or-female-brain-180957417/?no-ist) seems to be the only article I can find on the matter, but I can't imagine it being a full explanation of the subject or the only source material on this. I don't know myself, but it is a controversial topic, so any articles might be biased. It might be good to see if there are differences in the brains of male/female apes or other animals, since those might not be obfuscated by political correctness as much.
>>
>>7846995
You won't get an answer, because no one will do serious research on the topic for the same reason that we won't see any serious attempt to decode the haplotypes that point out racial distinctions in our lifetime - it's not really all that great of an investment (what are you going to sell from your results, pamphlets that say "gurls r dumb?" No one will want to publish your findings unless they can bank off of them) and it's also not great for the pursuit of happiness. Honestly, is it...

It is important if one group is less inclined to study STEM and there is this assertion going around that men are oppressing women by being men. And the reason we won't get a proper answer is because dishonest ideologues who are in the establishment have too mush to lose if we dispel their myths which they bank on.

Is it possible to start 'terraforming' venus, by engeneering plant cells to float around in the upper atmosphere and convert CO2 into O2 over millions of years to bring down temperatures? Obviously they would need Genetic Engineering to survive the acidic upper atmosphere.

Betelgeuse is a Red Giant star easily visible in clear nights sky in the constellation of Orion. It is located 640 ly from Earth. This star can become a supernova at ANYTIME... Maybe it has even may have happened. Who knows.. When it happens, it will shine as bright to be visible in the sky during the day.

Does the average good STEM student have the ability to work on one piece of work for 8 hours in a row? Or is it fine that I lose focus on stuff after usually no more than 2 hours?
18 replies and 2 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>7846853
there shouldn't be any classes where you're working on a subject/assignment for more than 8 hours unless it's a term paper.

You should work on something for an hour tops and take a 10 minute or so break before going back to it. this should give you enough time to re-focus
>>
>>7846856
that's pleb tier, an hour is not enough time to get properly into a subject and is not optimal use of time imo.

I prefer 3-4 hour sessions with small breaks where I leave the desk and just think about what I'm learning.

>>7846853
I doubt the average STEM student can but I know lots that are capable of that. Although I do go to the most autistic uni in the country so I'm not sure how it compares to other places.
>>
>>7846871
assuming you take 4 classes and a lab, that gives you about 10 hours a day to do stuff, a little more if you sleep.

there's no way you study in 3-4 hour sessions for all of your subjects every day

since you're clearly procrastinating, why don't you relax, and do an hour a day per subject per week. this doesn't count time for homework or projects, this is just studying. i guarantee you'll get more out of your studies than just cramming every other day

Why do people assume that a robot uprising is even possible?
Is there any reason to believe that a programmed computer is capable of reasoning beyond its programming?

>reasoning beyond its programming
you done fucked up

the reason every scenario starts this way, is because dumbfag engineers like you assume that your overlord math and physics doctors have foreseen and tested every possible interaction the programming can handle
>>
>>7846851
Robots do what they are programmed to do. The fear should be that all human programmers are fallible and some human programmers are malicious.
>>
>>7846865
This. The threat is one of robot programmers messing up and writing rules with unintended consequences. Which if you are not a programmer may not sound very realistic but I can assure you it's a very real possibility.

What's the point of water fluoridation?

It doesn't really seem to do anything beneficial. Might even be responsible for some adverse effects that no one really bothers to investigate further in fear of getting attacked by big name fluoridationists.

Yet CDC et al seem to be obsessed with it over sketchy, weak, and contradicting data.

From what I gather it was a good way to dispose of toxic waste from the Aluminum manufacturing industry that grew to epic proportions in the US.

Instead of paying to dispose of it, they paid off some dentists to shill the propaganda that is was good for teeth, then could sell it to water plant operators thus diluting it slowly to non toxic levels through water treatment systems. Medicating drinking water is suspicious and could all be tinfoil literally, however it for sure causes pitting in teeth and calcification...

Consciousness does not exist. It is a modern version of an outdated concept: the soul. There is no correlate of consciousness in the physical world. We hold on to the concept because we still believe that there is some, "us" that exists independently of our physical bodies. When I say that consciousness does not exist, I am not talking about awareness, or perception, or experience itself. I am talking about the idea that our brain, "produces" something. And that that something is different then our bodies themselves.

In reality, there is only the...

>Transhumanists and others believe that we eventually will be able to remove our consciousness from our bodies. I think this is nonsense. The process is a property of the medium, it can not be divorced. If I recreate the exact state of my digestive system in another person, it does not make it my digestion.

Well, suppose you replaced a cell in your body with a device that ran a digital simulation of the cell and had a biochemical interface to interact with the rest of the body....
