I fucked up my first cal 2 test of the semester and I want to get better for my test next week.
ITT: The hardest cal 2 questions you know / cal 2 questions you've fucked up on
pic related, the two questions that fucked me over last test

[math] \displaystyle \int{ \sqrt { \tan{ x} } \mathbb{d}x } [/math]
[math] \displaystyle \int{ \frac {1} { \sin{x} } \mathbb{d}x } [/math]
Knock yourself out.

t = tan(x/2) solves everything
>>7950608
1/sin(x) = sin(x)/sin(x)^2 = sin(x)/(1-cos(x)^2)
Then U sub
replace the tan(x) with sin(x)/cos(x) then u sub

A puzzle
Let u = x - y and v = y - z then the problems is to prove that for u,v>0:
f(u,v) := uv(u + v - 4) + u + v >= 0
To find the minimum of the function lets first calculate the gradient
Df(u,v) = (2uv + v^2 - 3, 2uv + u^2 - 3)
It's only zero when u = v = 1 so the minimum can only be there.
min f(u,v) = f(1,1) = 0 >= 0

I'm scheduled to take honors ochem next semester. No one I've talked to has taken honors, but everyone complains about ochem. Is it a huge step up from regular? How screwed am I?
>>7950471
Depends what school you go to. Some of my honors classes share lectures with normal classes and we just do extra on the side, some are separate and we cover a bit more/go more into detail/do the same stuff but in a smaller class environment to promote discussion and understanding of the topics
>>7950474
This class is set up with 3 lectures and 1 recitation but there's only 2 lecture/recitation times and 1 teacher while there's around 20 classes for regular.

Radars and visible light are basically the same thing, but with a different wave lenght and energy. So I thought, is this super black fabric pretty much like stealth tech on airplanes, but for our visible light?
>>7950146
Not really, eye/vision is more similar to passive radar. Typical radar is much more similar to echo location.
>>7950166
forgot my pic
Additionally stealth technologies do not simply rely on absorption to hide an object from view, geometry also plays a very important role.
>>7950146
cats and horses are basically the same thing, too, except size and hoof. so I thought, riding cats would allow us getting up that trees?
Let's try and improve our board by posting examples of OPs who try to talk about fields science without any meaningful knowledge to support themselves. We have the /SQT/ for pleb shit.
/fit/ has the sticky that newfags can go read, to avoid cancer spreading.
If we aggregate enough examples of pop-sci plebeians, we can educate newfigs on how to post good threads.
Anyone here dabble in Nootropics?
me, I do
yes
>>7950018
What do you recommend? I've tried modafinil and really liked but don't have access so I just ordered Adrafinil
>>7950036
Just buy some noopept. Its cheap and the dosages are small enough that if it works it will last, and if it doesnt then you are only out like 5 bucks.

What is graduate school for? Who is graduate school for?
My impression is that it lets students get the opportunity to REALLY study a subject in depth, to the point that basically you are then the authority on that subject because typically you're the only one doing that research.
What determines the research, though, is your advisor right? Or can you independently study something?
I really want to work as soon as I finish my BS, but would like to get my doctorates one day if possible. However my gpa is 3.4 right now. Am I out for good? Would it be stupid to...

That' more like postdoc.

i finished my bs and realized I wasn't qualified for shit/had no real idea of what I wanted to do. Just applied to the same uni I did undergrad at and now I'm doing masters to get hands on experience

>had no real idea of what I wanted to do
I hear this a lot. A chem professor at my school had no idea what he wanted to do, so he just kept going further and further into his education that he ended up a professor at the school.

Using the NLSY79, a large nationally representative survey tracking young baby boomers, this research analyzes the IQ of white women and men according to hair color. Blonde women have a higher mean IQ than women with brown, red and black hair. Blondes are more likely classified as geniuses and less likely to have extremely low IQ than women with other hair colors, suggesting the dumb blonde stereotype is a myth.
Blondes are more attractive and from their very young ages, they get things much more easily by using their cuteness and beauty. Boys just line up infront of them to do blondes a favor and people usually go easier on them. Meanwhile other girls with darker hair colors are not that attractive and they have to take the high road while trying to achieve what they want. They can't get it as easy as blondes so they challenge themselves which makes them smarter and more knowledgeable.
As time goes, beauty fades away and you see those desperate aged blondes try to look...

This narrative seems to be false though. Blonde women are smarter. And "challenging yourself" doesn't really matter. If you're smart you're smart.

How do you fix bad AI? Do you have to start from scratch? Is it like normal programming?
You dont fix it, you start over with different parameters and hope for a better result

Bad how??? What is it supposed to do? What's the input and the output format??
I'm organizing a group reading of Artin's Algebra textbook. I graduated recently and am bored as fuck waiting for grad school to start, so I figured we could do something productive on this board (and I can get a little review for quals).
People with little to no background are welcome to join in. That said, Artin will be a tough read at first if you're not comfortable with math; however, we will help you get through it. It's great if you've at least seen some linear algebra before.
We won't read the whole book, because there are parts that I would deem less important or interesting and it's long, but we will at least get the basics of groups and hopefully rings. Artin has excellent exercises, and we will need to work out a system for picking out ones to do. Be sure to get the second edition, as I know there is considerable difference (maybe just in the later chapters, but even still).
Apparently Slack is a good website for group chats, so I'm setting one up. Just leave your email to be invited.

Might be interested.

Shit, options isn't an email box any more?here's my throwaway: [email protected]
>>7949679
I actually did this for fun between my undergrad and grad with this book by myself a few years ago.
I'd be happy to throw in my 2 cents when I'm not in the classroom this summer, and I could use the review.

My rabbit is dying. I want a skeleton. How long will it take for her to decompose if I burry her? Any tips for a way to burry her once she's died to speed up decomposition?
>>7949455
I think there are some beetles that eat only the soft tissue while it's decomposing, leaving only bones. My human phys teacher would keep road kill in large fish tanks with them until all that was left was bones so she could show the class. There are also certain bacteria strains that do this. Google this shit
wait why dont you just eat it
that is literally the finest way to honor your fluffy tailed friend

What would happen if a generator had the magnetic field used to generate current powered by the generator?
If the spinning coil was started off with an extremely high speed before the magnetic field was given a kickstart, could that create a magnetic flash due to the feedback loop of how fast angular momentum is turned into current?
>>7948875
the self-excited generator is the normal case
and nothing unexpected would happen
>>7949189
Normal?
>>7949884
why not?
Why are all of the geniuses have curly hair?
>Euler
>Gauss
>Einstein
This proves that, if your hair is straight you are a brainlet.
Note that the reverse is not true though, you can still have curly hair and stupid.

>still a brainlet
> generalizing on a sample size of 3 people
