ok you faggots
what the fuck is zero

what the fuck is infinity
i want a straight answer from you fags
Numbers are a social construct
infinity is a number and zero is how many times you've had sex

zero is half an infinity
infinity is two zeroes
can all of mathematics be derived from 1+1=2?
>>7983421
Using only that 1+1=2, what's 3+4?
>>7983421
In the everyday sense of "1+1=2," no, it cannot. For example, you cannot say that there exists an empty set from the above statement.
If you want to consider "1+1=2" in a more rigorous sense, then learn how to bait better and actually try to define it.
>>7983428
1+1=2
2+1=3
3+1=4
1+1+1+1+1+1=7

AlphaGo and its other cousins from the DeepMind team rely on being able to rerun the exact same scenario literally millions of times. If you try to do this IRL, it would take too long and also fail because past tries would influence the environment of future tries, leading to nonstationary data.
Why the fuck do people still use this shitty language?
Why hasn't python been adopted?
Why is this a major part of every engineering curriculum instead of a simple language like python that actually makes sense and is more flexible?
Is Mathworks paying people to stay alive?

People are actually coding full projects in this bullshit. Can you really even call being proficient at MATLAB a skill?

Doing enough problems and getting some proper time invested will make you like the subject.
How come there are tons of mathematical constants that are real but no constants that are complex numbers?

So, I had a go at uni last year and completely sucked (Computer Engineering), I did fine in Programming 101, but Math related I completely failed Calc1, save the Calc1 its easy meme, obviously I'm not leveled so for me it isn't.
So I kinda got discouraged and didn't do much, but I was thinking about giving it another go next semester.
Well the question is this: I have the chance to do Discrete Mathematics before Calc1 (its not standard, but I'm allowed), do you think it would be better to do that course first and that may help me do Calc better...

any math will help you do other math easier
that said, calculus is elementary. you only need to follow instructions. you might need to work harder and start trying to learn instead of memorizing
>>7983017
How the fuck did you fail Calc 1?
Discrete Math is completely unrelated to Calc 1. Taking it b4 Calc 1 won't help.
Discrete math is indeed easier, but if you're failing Calculus I, you need to try harder.
You're a computer engineering major. You'll need to learn it. It's not a fun class, and I only got a B in all three of them, but it's necessary.
I will say that after taking all three of them, the discrete math course at my school is a complete cakewalk. I've scored perfectly on almost every exam and quiz so far.
Been struggling with Calculus I at school, the lectures don't seem to be cutting it up for me. I need more explanation to understand things.
What worked out for you anons, any books/tutorials that really helped you out?
Need of your dire help anons, just need some guidance..
Search for "CalculusExpert" on YouTube, she explains it really well and makes it look as easy as it is.

Is it a bad thing to start liking CS so much that you switched from Mechanical Engineering to studying it?
Why all the hate for the Computer Science field? I'm at Georgia Tech and we have a pretty decent CS program (I think), pretty sure the consensus is they have some sort of higher 'prestige'. Is there higher mobility in engineering if you are proficient at it?
Why is it assumed that it is any less rigorous even though, sans Nuclear engineering - the physics and maths requirements are the same?
Why do Computer Science majors get paid more...

Because you barely learn anything.
>>7978398
It depends, if you enter academia you'll quickly find your undergrad is pretty irrelevant, most people learn outside their field and end up doing something completely different.
Entering industry there are good and bad people in all fields who are paid well and shit respectively. The main reason to do enigneering is if you want to work in a specific industry requiring licensure; ie if you want to design and sign off on nuclear reactors you need a Nuclear engineering degree.
What's nice about...

Is it possible to do math without Numbers?
What would such an alien math look like?
>>7973967
Vectors aren't numbers, they are just represented by numbers.
Look at geometry, there are no numbers there, just we represent properties of shapes with numbers.
Knot theory also uses no numbers.
In answer to your question, it really depends on your definition of mathematics. Is geometry mathematics? Or is what we use to describe geometry mathematics?
If the answer is the latter, then maths must use numbers, if it's the former then certain branches of mathematics do not necessarily need numbers.
>>7973967
Yes. Just like ZFC but without the infinity axiom.

Since science, in the form it is, has been shown over and over again to surpass any other institution in generating progress, why don't we structure our society the same way the scientific community is structured?
That is, if you had to express some opinion, you would have to publish it in a scientific journal. Some journals would be high standard, peer reviewed, and respected among the society and academia. Others would be trash (but would allow for people like creationists to express their opinions).
This would guarantee both freedom of speech and freedom from...

You provided no counter-argument at all. Democracy will run everyone into the ground, and it already is doing so very well. Crucial ecosystems are being destroyed, global warming results in more and more climatic extremes, arable land is being eroded and most of the key resources are being depleted.
Therefore, democracy should be replaced by a system which wouldn't let everyone equal rights in voting: an ignorant creationist idiot shouldn't have the same voting power as a high-ranking academic.

I used to work in a factory, and eventually the janitorial work was outsourced to a local charity which employs tards. Basically every day a minder would show up and mind about 6 tards (there seemed to be a group of about a dozen who would rotate in and out) while they emptied garbage and did other cleaning tasks. OTTOMH I don't recall any "classical" Down faces in the bunch. But one guy sorta stuck out, he was by far the lowest functioning of the bunch. One of the (mentally) lowest functioning adult...
