Thread about this a couple days ago so I'll just paraphrase.
There mere observation that sleep happens in evolved organisms means it confers some value greater than the risk of being eaten by wolves in the 1/3 of each day you're unconsciously immobilized. Additionally it must contend against the benefit of being awake and active for that time, able to seek out basic needs and sexual partners.

It's actually pretty fucking obvious. For the majority of man's existence we spent our days desperately searching for food. With such scarce energy it was better to conserve when it was nighttime. At night we couldn't see thus we couldn't search for food, it was a waste of time.
Sleep is useless today however, we can create artificial light and have enough food to fuel our extra functioning time.
The cure for sleep is coming and it will change society forever.

How was the second integral obtained? What rule was used? Why were we integrating with respect to distance, and then this was switched to integration with respect to momentum (mv)? And was this a def. integral from 0 to s at first, but transformed into a def. integral from 0 to momentum?

I was wondering if someone had come across this or if you have any ideas/opinions about this technology? At first I didn't think that this could be some good stuff in the future but after more reading and thinking I was quite impressed... Since LED's are installed basically everywhere today (I even have them in my car for example) it could be very useful. Just imagine the whole house...

I see it as being useful for containing signals, not broadcasting widely or as a public service. The benefit of lifi is that you can have a different "network" in each room of the house and have them be separated by walls, so your interactive devices can have more functionality within rooms and not depend on being numbered and set up manually. Why use a wavelength in cities for municipal wireless internet that needs to be installed every 10 feet and is easily obstructed by visible matter and fog

For now I think we can't rely much on this technology yet since there are risks when using in wider range but since people use LEDs more often, it can become more effective in the future in my opinion. The fact is, that even the fog can be a problem when using somewhere outside atm. About the infrared.. I remember using it and the downside about it was the signal sensitivity/interruption since it has to have a direct line of sight. Not many people have used it though which is another downside but it may be different with LEDs. It may be similiar...

Hey guys, any of you land any undergrad research that lead to authorship? How'd you do it?
I ask as a community college kiddo with a subpar GPA who wants to transfer into uni as a junior, and to make up for my shitty earlier years with some a solid portfolio so grad school at a decent place isn't impossible.
Just ask around with the professors. I'm coming from a small private uni so the chance to do research is a much greater privilege (profs usually do an informal application process) but if you are at a larger uni there should be someone who will take you.
Tip: ask everyone if your first few choices aren't responding. You want to tell grad schools you did research for X number of years. What it's in doesn't matter that much unless

Thanks for the response. I'll be going to a state uni, so pretty big, hopefully someone will take me. My only concern is not having enough time to establish contacts and just having to immediately pester staff for a spot - is that acceptable? I was considering sending out applications for research before I even transfer, so that when I arrive I'd, ideally, be researching from day one to make up for two years at a junior college with nothing special.

I don't know but it's some fucking bullshit. It seriously angers me how much of my life I have to spend sleeping. Every scientist who's working on extending people's natural lifespan should instead focus on eliminating the need for sleep, it'd extend the amount of time we have available to do stuff in our lives by decades.
