Because P(n) = n^c is faster than P(n) = c^n, where c is any constant. It may not be faster for n smaller than 10/100/1000/etc., but will be for any sufficiently large input. In general small inputs take little time to evaluate, so it's better to care about bigger ones.
If you weigh yourself on some scales, then take a shit on another scale and rewigh yourself on the first scales, why is the sum of the resulting weights not equal to your measured initial weight?

Yesterday i made a campfire and threw yet unidentified metal in it. Said metal melted, and i have collected 206g of it. Density is ~6.24g/cm3. What material can this be? I've tried to look it up but got nowhere. It's more than twice as heavy as aluminium, but about half the weight of lead. Yes, the field purity comic has damaged /sci/, but a lot of the memes concerning non-math/physics fields are mostly banter... And the few kids that take them seriously and spam them in threads are extremely easy to dismiss. I'm pretty sure even the serious math or physics majors cringe at those memes when used in seriousness.

How does /sci/ deal with the fact that whenever they learn something cool and interesting, that they'll end up forgetting about it in a month, and won't even be able to talk about it with people?
Ive created flash cards in anki, with information ive read about, just so I wont forget it. But. Soon, Ill have thousands of flashcards I would have to go through, just to recite information.

Depends. With literature I have nearly total recall because of how much I have read. I can remember everything fairly easily because of all the associations and the fact that it's an ongoing study.
