Hey /sci/,
I studied one year maths in Austria, where we had separated degrees and all degree courses separated for mathematicians, as opposed to teachers, or engineers, or physicists. The tempo was good, the atmosphere was nice, the lecture halls were nice and mostly empty, the exercises were engaging.
Now I started over in Germany, where in the first year they put mathematicians, physicists and teachers together.
I must say I don't think the latter mode makes any sense. The lecture halls are filled to the brim, the tempo is super slow, the teacher...

What makes an engineer/mathematician/physicist/other good is their ability to know how it works in other fields.
Some of those people might be smart enough to see how the mentality from another field could apply to their own and innovate.
It gives engineers and physicists rigorous mathematical background.
It gives mathematicians a taste of what theoretical problems they could solve.

I wish, but it's not the case. F.e. we didn't even do a rigorous introduction to the reals. Many proofs are just hand-waved, many assumptions are out of nowhere.
I believe interdisciplinary means mathematicians attending physics lectures and vice-versa, but there is no such thing as a pure math lecture in the first year.

Well, i have been working on a project in programming together with a classmate and it is nearing completion and i have come to a point in my individual project report where i need to write what in the program i have written.
The truth is that i have written nearly the whole god damn thing. My partner do nearly deliver nothing at all allthough he has had plenty of time.

Im in a situation where i can get some LSD with a friend. I was all up for it but now when i have the means im having some second thoughts... Reason why im posting this to /sci is because im quite interested in any harmfull stuff that can happen to me. Why are electives so shit /sci/?
Pic related, these are my options as an engineering student, red is what I've already taken. Everything on this list is so uninteresting, why can't I take math courses with my regular courses?
What electives did you guys take with your degree? Did you enjoy them? Would you have preferred more "academic" choices?

Sustainability could be relevant to your career I guess. If it were me I'd look into kinesiology since I'm interested in human biomechanics, but it might be a hippie alternative 'medicine' massage class.
