There was a study done at Oak Ridge Lab. by Paul C. Aebersold in 1953 that found that 98 percent of all the atoms in a person’s body change out every year, and that within five years all the atoms had changed.

?????????????????????????????????????????

yup there goes any idea of having a conciousness blown the fuck out.

So /sci how do you explain this one, how are we anything other than a walking computer program, you can replace every atom and its still us so its nothing physical whatsoever, just a program?

This is widely known. Did you derp or do you actually think this somehow related to consciousness? I don't disagree that we are deterministic. Use a dictionary?
>>
>>8110096

well this just proves beyond any doubt there is no physical thing that is a human conciousness.

our "conciousness" is just the program in our brain, it can be recreated on completely new atoms.
>>
>>8110103
It just implies that consciousness isn't a set of atoms.

Does anyone know about the engineering physics programs at Stanford and MIT? Is engineering physics a meme, or is it respected and legit? Is it the most difficult engineering major?

> Is it a meme?
Yes, largely. There is no job that calls for the title "Engineering Physicist". This mitigates the main fucking advantage of becoming an engineer.

Being exclusive shouldn't be mistaken for being difficult.

>There is no job that calls for the title "Engineering Physicist".
Plenty of jobs call for the skillset it provides though. Most employers look for an engineering degree related to what their project is about. They won't go oh we were specifically looking for a BME when an EE also has signal processing down. Any employer that autistic you don't want to work for anyway.

>>8109648

There's an Engineering Physics program in Oxford afaik, and the way it works is you learn general stuff the first couple of years, and then you specialise to whatever you want, mech, aero, EE, ChemE etc.

It is the only program they have for engineers, so it definitely isn't a meme, at least in Oxford.

Is the second example not a set because it's not denoted by a capital letter? This seems silly; it would've been a set in complex analysis or linear algebra; why not in topology?

pls anon; I already got attached. ;; I read the prefaces and I feel like I got a personal student-teacher connection with the author and when I read the text, I narrate his voice as though he were an actual lecturer so that I don't get lonely.

Oh god what book is this. {1,2,3} is totally a set.

OP, something else to keep in mind. In ZFC (which is probably secretly the axiom system your book is using), everything is a set. The lowercase/uppercase distinction is used as a convention to help one keep track of what objects are being manipulated, and what is containing those objects. This does not change the fact that everything is a set.

What's the minimum human population required to prevent inbreeding, assuming it's an integrated community?

2.
Inbreeding is an issue only if you are not willing to kill the deformed and inferior.

And soon enough, 1, once the artificial womb is ready.
>>
>>8109438
I read somewhere that to keep deformities to a acceptable rate, the lowest amount would be 20. I have no idea if that's 10/10 or some other ratio however.
Some kind of breeding system would also need to be constructed of course.

The author here mentions an island that was populated using a 20 person 10/10 model, I believe this is what I read.

Basically, it would depend mainly on the amount of healthy/bad recessive genes each person had, but a low number can be achieved.
And if you decide to just live with an incredible amount of deformations, possibly resulting in the creation of a subhuman mutant species, you could go 2 as >>8109441...

If you count solar-orbiting space habitats, we're probably pretty close to that right now.
The "how" isn't the hard part.
Political motivation to allocate funding, even in the private sector is the hurdle.

If you're an applied math major, or specialize in some form of Operations Research, you'll be in like Flynn to get a good job at any large tech or logistics based company.

If you specialize in probability and stochastic systems, you can easily get a job with any quant trader or financial firm with a quant shop. They make good money as well.

If you can do any form of machine learning, you are also in a good position to get a solid job.

If you don't qualify in those areas, aren't...

Not OP here, but need some advice all the same. I'm going to college in the fall and I'm really stuck in between majoring in Applied Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, or Finance.

I really want to get into Financial Engineering, but my school doesn't offer that major, and Actuarial Science is the closest degree to mixing Finance, Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (mainly programming).

I just don't know if Actuarial Science is very marketable compared to a Math major and Finance minor.

The only microwave based weapon I know of is the Active Denial System.
It's a type of nonlethal weapon that never saw any combat use.

You aim it at people and it heats their water and fat.
It reaches /just/ deep enough into their skin to scald their nerves.
Which is extremely painful.
No long-term damage though.

>>8109018
Not that Anon, but it's a really inefficient way to tamper with water supplies.
