What Public sources of Popular Science publications do you think do a disservice to Scientific understanding?
It seems like every mainstream source is addicted to selling flashy nonsense marketed at Science.
Pic is an example.
Myself? I can't stand
- Discovery Channel/Magazine
- History Channel
- Popular Science
- All of Youtube
- Animal Planet
- Scientific American
- New Scientist
- Discover Magazine

In fact, National Geographic is the only mainstead publication I trust 40% of the time.

Anything on facebook. "I fucking love science" is a terrible page and should be destroyed. As well as anyone who listens to Bill Nye and NDT for anything.
>>
>>8112069
Yeah I fucking hate all that bullshit clickbait articles.

nasa.gov usually is pretty collected though. For an alternative to clickbait articles like "Is X healthy", look at PubMed http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed
IEEE magazines are ok.
I really can't say any other places though. You just gotta sift through the loads of bullshit.
>>
>>8112073
You're really trying to get in-depth information through a Facebook page? You can't go to a comedian show and then complain there isn't enough serious reflection.

Bill Nye's show did a lot of good in getting young kids interested. NDE's version of the Cosmos is still a good watch.

SciShow can give a good surface-level understanding to things and provides good sources.

But other than that, yes I agree. "THESE FOUR THINGS COULD CUT CANCER RATES IN HALF"
"THIS...

what influenced you in your interest with the math and sciences?

did you go into your program due to sheer interest, or was it for the job prospects? which is more important and why?

Why is SpecZ there? I don't know much about arithmetic schemes because I consider C-algebras and go from there, but I would imagine that an arithmetic scheme has a cover by affine opens the same way all schemes do, so why does the picture suggest you can only take the curve specZ? I think you're just looking at an example there OP. I'll tell you think, I bet they're complicated as fuck. They would always have the frobenius automorphism over F_p...

Tell her that you are authorized to release some of those grant funds ($1000000) to aid Nigerian development, but that the funds are stuck in the bank in Lagos. Offer to make her the authorized distributor of the funds, but you need her to transfer $1000 to cover the fees.

This is the real reason why Africans don't do science, they are quite practical people. I went to some top UK school and all the Nigerian exchange students there studied either engineering or law and did fine at it meaning they weren't dumb they were just uninterested in pure science.

Anyway I have to agree with her detractors, she is using taxpayer money i.e their money so has no right to demand it by telling them to shut up and accept her research. Government should kick her out of the country.

Whenever I drink coffee (and this also happens to some friends when they smoke) I want to take a shit like less than a minute later. I suppose there's no way the coffee already reached my intestines, so what is going on? Is it my brain doing something after tasting coffee? is it a placebo? should this thread be in /ck/ instead?

197 KB,
When I was younger, I got IQ tested several times and at age 14 I had an IQ of 168.
By age 15 I was an undergrad, and by age 18 I started an engineering graduate school.
I see all these people spending a lot of time working to barely pass classes. What do they do on their free time though? Do you know any people like this?

Everyday I just wake up, decide if I go to class. If I do and when I'm done, I just go rest, cook me some nice meals and play video games until I have to go to bed. Rinse and repeat.
However I have recently not been first in one of my courses.
Am I lazier than what is acceptable? Should I be worried?

I fear that being smart has made me lazy and that I can't get out of this state of decay.

>Not using that to start making money by opening a small business or getting a comfy part time job while attending uni.

I think that you are not as smart as you thought you were.

Entering university N years earlier simply advances your life by N years. Even if you had been a normal kid you would have still studied engineering in undergrad and gradschool, simply 3 years later.

Doing something actually notable and that holds weight like simply growing inside a company and building a strong resume, to something amazing like that 15 year old kid who made a new way to predict cancer is what actually advances you in life a fuckton.

If all you did was start university N years earlier but did nothing notable with your supposed intelligence then you are nothing and you did nothing.

What is the science behind blonde hair?
I've heard it's the same thing as brown hair genetically except the distribution of a brown eumelanin is more sparse. Is this true?
Or maybe there are other differences?
If so, does this rule also applies to red hair?
To grey eyes? Hazel eyes? Light brown skin?
I'm not quite sure, because I'm not an expert in this area.
