Here's a picture of a famous tree, the giant sequoia General Sherman. With a height of 275 feet, a diameter of 25 feet, and an estimated volume of 52,513 cubic feet, it is the largest living tree on earth. With an age of over 2,300 years, it's also one of the oldest trees.

That is not actually as silly a thing to say as one might think.
Conciousness is defined as the state of being awake and aware of one's surroundings, or awareness of one's mind and the world. By that definition, trees are conscious, maybe even sentient creatures. They can see and hear through a combination of sensing vibrations and discerning different wavelengths of light. They can transmit and store electrical signals in response to stimulus like the human nervous system can, despite not having brains, so they are capable of memory and remembering things. Trees are even capable of reacting to stimuli: surviving cold by entering a state of dormancy, growing faster towards places where the light and temperature is good, and growing away from places which are not as healthy. Trees are even capable of "talking" to each other and sharing information both information and nutrients through underground communication networks.
I can only wonder what it's really like to be a tree, though. Trees have much slower reaction speeds and a different perception of time. A year for a tree is like a day for a human. Think about how long five minutes is, how much can happen in that time. For a tree, that measurement of time is barely perceptible - like only a second for you.
