I for one, am ok with it. Maybe the shying away from nipples is a bit excessive, you can maintain the same feel they're going for AND show a naked nipple.
It actually feels modern and contemporary and relevant, as much as a magazine can feel now, and if it keeps up it should chip away at the "crusty old magazine for old farts" reputation is has now.
In the meantime, imma dump some of my favourite from the 50s up to mid 80s

This. They had to drop nudity, at least temporarily. The whole point of the brand used to be nudity, but they'll never win that arms race against the internet. You get more and better nudity on /s/, even today, than you ever could in playboy.
The articles used to be ok, even great, but political correctness killed that once and for all. These days, the literary box you have to stay inside makes saying anything genuinely daring or new almost impossible.
So eventually what I think will happen is that they'll do a mix of nude and non-nude content. But before they can go there, they need to loudly abandon nudity so people won't feel cheated. Sometimes a big change is easier for the public to swallow than a little one. Then later they can back off and do a mix while refocusing on articles. They also have to wait out third wave feminism, which was sure to try to get them shut down sooner or later. In a few years, they can do that mix, while adding NSFW articles and fiction as well.
It's their only chance... except that is there still room for ANY magazine these days? The whole format seems archaic.

I feel the same. I actually bought some old magazines from the 60s and 70s, read them cover to cover, and they WERE entertaining. But they became irrelevant around the early 90s, with all the Gen X apathy.
They DO have nudity ( pic related, Miss March ) but it's done in a classier, more implied way.
