It's been a few years since I got into it, but I think it's a combo of all those things. I really like the dichotomy between typical JAV and gyaru ones - they're usually more dominant, outgoing, slutty and aggressive, plus their clothing style includes lots of heels and boots, short skirts and hot pants, that sort of thing. As well as more jewellery and makeup, plus the tans can be amazingly hot if done well.
Funnily enough, I'm really not a fan of the 'California girl' look that inspired gyaru. Or really extreme ganguro looks.
