Just a silly non-porn request coming through!
tl;dr:
>How to I make a bitmap opaque/transparent
Or
>How do I add a non-bmp file to a Windows resource (DLL/EXE)
Pic related
So I installed a custom theme and it all works perfectly except that the creator added PNG files to manually replace the Windows BMP's with and that wont work, it wwont accept PNG's.
And when I convert to BMP they (obviously) get a while background, not even with a mask or converting to 32 but w/e first does it work. Any ideas? Will ask him aswell but that's usually takes a lot longer.
It depends on what software you are running desu. If you are using for example mspaint and windows 7 32/64 then it has its transparity function removed from this and other editions.
For transparity you are advised to go with PS or paint.net. In both these programs you can set any colors transparity and in most formats including bitmap.
They will be fully compatible with your Bome software. On a separate note I see from the snapshot you're using the "trial", would you like a key to unlock it?

I did it in Photoshop ofcourse, added alpha mask etc it didn't work. Followed several tutorials step by step
And thanks for the offer but I'll just use the trial till I'm done.
1. Use the Magic Wand tool to select all the white areas. (set the tolerance level higher or lower to get all of the white, but nothing of the parts you want to keep).
2. Use Select/Invert Selection.
3. CTRL+C to copy the selection.
4. Open a new image with a transparent background.
5. CTRL+V to paste the data into the new image.
6. Save as BMP

This was one of the first things I tried. Though there was no background I still made an entirely new document with the image but that didn't work. All that is transparent becomes white upon saving
I've done all the obvious things, need some different suggestions
Then you're obviously missing something. The easiest way is alpha channels.
Post the picture and I will convert it over, then tell you how I did it.

I tried alpha channels but didn't work for me mate
and what color do you want transparent?
>>14044973
Not sure what you mean, what's already transparent, everything around the image that's all
>>14044973
You sure it will work? With these buttons it's look amazing.
Okay I did it and converted it to an .ICO as you are wanting to do it for an icon. But the server won't let me post it as it's an unrecognised file.
If you want a normal file looking transparent on a desktop you need to save it as png or similar, if you want an icon, you need to save it as .ico instead. You can do a .bmp as alpha like you were doing, but in order for it to be transparent you need to save it as an .ico
Save your logos as png and then upload them here:
http://www.prodraw.net/favicon/
and it will convert them free to .ico

Cheers for the trouble mate but it'll only accept BMP, not sure why. I'll try to add it as ICO though, cheers. So there's indeed no such thing as a BMP in BMP format with transparency
There is, but windows doesn't recognise it. It will return to transparent when editing. As in you can merge two picture together setting one color as transparent say, but for icons and things it has to be an .ico thats where my confusion was before.
But as far as it goes, you can't use a .bmp like a .gif .ico or .png, because of the way the software handles them the colour will always revert.

Yeah thought so, how the fuck did the maker of this theme did it. He must have found a way to add a non-BMP somehow. His last reply would almost 3 years ago, don't have much hope
The only other way I can see this working is:
To use a bitmap image as a 16-color icon, rename the .bmp file to a file with an .ico extension. To do so, follow these steps:
In Windows Explorer, click Options on the View menu.
Click the "Hide MS-DOS extensions for file types that are registered" check box to clear it, and then click OK.
Locate the .bmp file you want to use as an icon.
Use the right mouse button to click the .bmp file, and then click Rename on the menu that appears. Rename the file to a file with an .ico extension.
Windows automatically recognizes that you want to use the bitmap image as an icon. The image is resized to icon size and converted to 16 colors.
To use the .ico file as an icon for a shortcut, follow these steps:
Use the right mouse button to click the shortcut, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.
On the Shortcut tab, click Change Icon.
Type the name of the .ico file in the File Name box, or click Browse and locate the .ico file.
Click OK, and then click OK.
>>Click the "Hide MS-DOS extensions for file types that are registered" check box to clear it, and then click OK.
This may then allow you to upload it to the program as a .bmp file and for it to be recognised...just a thought
