I need information for an assignment. How much do the rights to commercial, famous movies cost to use them on a themed bar as decoration? I'm thinking about avengers and harry potter kind of films.

Is this a one off "avengers night" or a permanent thing?
If it's a permanent thing: probably a lot, but I suspect just getting the creative clearance will be more more time consuming than making Duke Nukem forever.

It'd be a permanent thing. Do you have any idea of approximately how much would it be? How many 0s at least?

Sorry, I have no idea. Try contacting the studio in question and see if they even will let you have said decorations in a bar. A lawyer who specializes in the entertainment industry might be able to give you a ballpark figure.

I'll try to find a lawyer, thanks!

Talk to ASCAP, they do the licensing rights for a lot of things, especially public playing of music. I suspect that they could point you in the right direction.

... I used to work for them in NYC doing their databases, it's pretty complicated doing their shit given the percentages and legal stuff that has to be paid out for public performances. They get their cut.
