Here in Germany, capitalism actually hindered the development of decent internet infrastructure A LOT: A few decades ago it became clear that we're going to need to expand said infrastructure. From a technical point of view the obviously best option would have been to use fibre optics. Instead, lobbyists managed to convince aka bribe our communications minister to use shitty copper cables. Which resulted in slow internet for almost everybody for a long time. Only now that infrastructure is being upgraded, and slowly. And most rural areas are still fucked, and will stay fucked for years to come.
