I'm 36. I've spent the last 28 years listening to the non-stop talk about fixing detroit. It's impossible. It will never be a decent place to live.
Not one year has it improved in any way in decades.
The county is staffed by crooked thieves. Everyone that works for the city is crooked. The schools are filled with misbehaving, unreachable, unteachable kids. All the homes in the city are in poor shape and disrepair. It's large and contains very few decent parks. The only thing that works profitably is the water department, for now, unless Jon Stewart can ruin that, too.
To fix everything, and bring it to even above 1/4 of average would take 20 more years, at minimum, $25 billion, or so. It would also require that crime was taken seriously, the entire population starts 'snitching', and everyone that works for the city is forever banned from being employed there again.
At this point you still have a population that cannot hold a job, and it would return.
This is stupid.
We need to stop helping them. Stop building. Turn the money faucet off. Let it become the forrest it was 300 years back. Then it might be a nice place to live.
