https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2016/05/06/massive-convoy-of-wildfire-evacuees-to-move-through-fort-mcmurray.html

RCMP officers escorted evacuees from devastated Fort McMurray through their burning hometown on Friday morning as massive wildfires continue to rage through northern Alberta.

Fifty vehicles at a time were escorted by police through the now-empty northern Alberta city, carrying citizens who were not allowed to take a peek at the remains of their abandoned homes.

Once home to 88,000 people, Fort McMurray is now inhabited only by firefighters and police.

A helicopter is leading the convoy to make sure the highway is safe. The fire has torched 1,600 homes and other buildings in Fort McMurray. Alberta Premier Rachel Notley said the first evacuation convoy will be 400 vehicles and officials would see how that goes.

Officials planned to continue the airlift of 8,000 people to Edmonton and Calgary which began on Thursday.

I try my best to get the news out quickly.

Right now a lot of the news seems to be about people trying to get out of the northern camps and there is a 400 car convoy trying to head south.

No update on Anzac, it was within 1km yesterday of the town.

As of evening, May 4, approximately 8400 people have been flown out of camps north of Ft. Mac. 25,000 more to be moved in the next 72 hours.
Weather conditions forecast for 6 May are not favourable for firefighting operations. Temperatures in the high teens and winds gusting up to 40kph are forecast. Cooler, more humid conditions are expected to move into the area the morning 8 May, with cloud cover and a chance of precipitation in the forecast.
Pets left at the McDonald Island Reception Centre were picked up the morning of 6 May and are being transferred to Edmonton.
Infrastructure damage assessment is ongoing. An overflight inspection 5 May indicated the hospital, RCMP headquarters, Northern Lights Rehabilitation Centre and Suncor Energy Plant have not sustained any significant damage.

then he has to open a mosque
then he has to from town to town to pray with the muslim community in Canada

Every firebreak they dug was jumped. The fire had no problem jumping rivers. Plus, once the smoke cloud got large enough it started generating it's own wind and weather and lightning, so several lightning strikes allowed the fire to leap long distances overnight.

>>73193704
Most places didn't lose power or internet so all of the banks were being remotely monitored. And the instant that roadblock drops there will be private security rushing in to secure the branches. You're better off going to the rich part of town and smashing houses, or ripping off gas stations and small businesses. But Fort Mac is mostly white and wealthy so none of that should be a big problem :^)

This is definitely part of the "muh fossil fuels" are evil push that tbtb have been pushing. Venezuela collapsing and the mainstream demonizing of the Saudis (fuck the sauds tho they deserve everything they have coming to them) are also a big part of this. The tar sands going up in flames fits this narrative so well. The plebs can't help but destroy mother nature. We need more government "supervision" of energy and a "green revolution."

"Pay your carbon offsets, goy."

This climate bullshit will be the biggest power grab of our lifetimes. Remember, the UN says we'll all be "Global Citizens" by 2030.

Lot of people get confused with insurance.

As long as you paid for it you will get a nice check from the insurance company for fire damage, even a forest fire. The real question is if people will take the money and run, or rebuild.

>Muh Flood damage from Katrina/calagary flood.

Homeowners insurance does not cover flood damage. Thus a lot of people were fucked when they didn't get a check in Katrina or the Calgary floods. Flood insurance is a separate policy, and is expensive.

Fire is one of the few things that virtually every home insurance policy covers. And you can't get a mortgage in this country without some form of insurance, so fortunately most people should be covered.
Funny thing is Fort Mac was actually shrinking and lots of people were trying to sell their very overpriced (everything up there was overpriced) homes. Now a lot of them will get a big fat insurance check and the ability to relocate wherever the heck they want. That's good news for them but not for the city itself.
>>
>>73195949
If the entire city burns down, will they actually rebuild it and the infrastructure? Sounds expensive as fug.
>>
>>73196085

Almost all homeowner policies cover wildfire damage , otherwise they will not qualify for insuring mortgaged property. (Banks will not loan on property not covered by wildfires) however any trees or landscaping will not be covered.

Fire insurance is a specialized form of insurance beyond property insurance in certain cases here in the states. I don't know how it works in Canada, but I wouldn't be at all shocked if a lot of people are not covered. A lot of cars were lost as well, and those often are only insured for accidents. Plus, property insurance only covers your insured property - personal belongings aren't covered.

Aside from businesses that are probably insured out the ass, I imagine a lot of people are going to get screwed by incomplete coverage.
>>

Yeah I remember that idiot a couple threads ago. But he represents a big chunk of Canada that has no clue how big the energy sector is in this country. That's why every time the prairie provinces hear other parts of canada making a fuss about the oilsands and telling us to SHUT IT DOWN out here we all wonder if they've hit their heads on something really hard

>>73196504
It was literally at the front gate of Nexen's Long Lake project but they battled it back (plus those sites are basically giant gravel pits spotted with concrete and steel structures so there's not much that easily burns). With the change in winds now, no communities or industry should be in it's path for a few days at least, even though the fire is still growing

Also the forestry guy said sometimes these fires just continue to burn literally until winter hits. But as long as it's innawoods no one cares (and it's actually good for the forests)
>>
>>73196484
Most homeowners insurance policies will cover damage caused by such perils as fire, windstorms, hail, lightning, theft or vandalism. There are other homeowners policies that cover additional perils as well. Typically, floods and earthquakes are excluded.

Ya not too long ago southern Alberta had a massive flood and it did nearly $2b in damages and a lot of it was uninsured because home insurance doesn't typically cover floods. There was this huge debate about compensating these people and weather or not they should be allowed to rebuild homes in known flood areas or not.

HO-1 policies cover

Fire, Lightning, Windstorm (unless you live in a hurricane zone), Hail (except in some midwest states), Explosion, Riots, Civil commotion, Aircraft (and things falling from aircraft), Vehicles (and things thrown from vehicles), Smoke, Malicious mischief, Theft, Volcanic eruption

HO-2s cover all above plus

Falling objects, The weight of ice, snow, or sleet, Flooding from your appliances, plumbing, HVAC, or fire-protection sprinkler system, Damage to electrical parts caused by artificially generated electrical currents (such as a power surge not caused by lightning). But damaged electronics such as computers aren’t covered.
Glass breakage, Abrupt collapse (say from termite damage)

HO-3 cover everything except some excluded types which are the following

Floods
Earthquakes
Wars
Nuclear accidents
Landslides
Mudslides
Sinkholes

In the states there is is a federal flood insurance program, which is nice that people can get covered, but the bad news is that means people build in known flood areas.

I personally like the idea of saying "This is a flood area, if you build in this area and it floods, your fucked, but you knew about it." and only give aid to those people who bought it before it was a known flood zone (If any)
>>
>>73197589

IDK how it is in Canada but if the house is still under mortgage it will have fire insurance included in the escrow amount. If the house burns down then the lender is reimbursed for the market value of the property.

The persons who owe a mortgage on the house gets shit, unless they have a separate policy which usually covers just the equity.
