You can get an SKS and a crate of ammo for between $450 and $500 in Canada right now, though it'll be corrosive so you'll have to be diligent in cleaning it. level II & III hard anodizing creates a harder surface, so it is more resistant to wear and tear. Lots of people buy anodized 80% lowers and machine them out leaving the inside raw. I've only done aluminum. I have a polymer80 lower that I haven't finished and it seems pretty good for what it is, they obviously added extra structure in the crucial areas. The mag well is somewhat flexible which I'm not crazy about. Anywhays it really depends on what you plan on using it for. If you're planning for SHTF or something and have a bugout bag, the polymer ones are really light so it would make a good backup.

I won't be taking these to the range or anything for various reasons, they're strictly a SHTF option for me, so I guess I will not worry about the inside being bare aluminum. Maybe there is some kind of coating I can put on instead for some rudimentary protection though?

Pump will be a lot cheaper for similar levels of reliability. Something like a Mossberg 590A1 if you have a little spending money and want amazing aftermarket either a Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88 for a fair bit cheaper. Ithaca 37s are also great and have an older style look to them. A good double barrel will be over $1000 easily, though are amazing, especially once you get into the $2500-3000 range.

I'm working on it, I just don't want to be defenseless in case there's a crisis. I'm getting family court records to see the exact language they used in the order to send me to a mental hospital for a month evaluation, and after that I'm going to try contacting the FBI to see if they can tell me what is in my NICS file.
