18 here and fresh high school grad. I am fine with a draft or joining the military, might join the reserves for help with college. In my graduating class of 300, there were about a dozen guys who all enlisted in the marines or army and there were 2 people going to be officers, one is in ROTC and one going to the Airforce Academy. Pretty much everybody respected them for it except maybe few uber edgelords.
The military, since we aren't in any major conflicts right now and due downsizing, is actually getting more selective. This isn't 2003 anymore where you could be a literal felon and get in. Not to say it's super selective, but everyone I saw enlisting were middle of the road C or B students and the tow going to be officers were both in the top 5% of their class.

I graduated with a Master's in 2009. I have been teaching since 2010. Universities only hire 30% full-time staff. I thought about getting a PhD, but I don't think the jobs in teaching are there.
As for this generation, I taught middle school for a while. I was told by the principal that my teaching was too difficult- even though the kids were getting it. Now I know why college kids barely have two brains cells to rub together. And one kid in particular- as example- couldn't even speak to me without getting mommy to do it for him. My college education wasn't cheap, but it will get me a job. First 4 years was covered by financial aid and scholarships, grad school wasn't. I had to pay that shit out of pocket and take out loans.
