I don't believe I could've ever become so mature in such a short amount of time. I grew up hosting a party house that I inherited and at one point we got into hallucinogens.
There are people out there that you can have a five minute conversation with and realize they should never do hallucinogens. I smoked the devil weed for about 30 years, pretty much all day every day when I could get my hands on it. I never saw a problem with it, it didn't make me low-functional, or at least, that's what I thought.
Then, about 2 months ago, I decided to quit. I'd never quit for more than a few days before and I was really just getting tired of the ritual - having to score it, pay for it, roll it, smoke it, and the effect was minimal since my tolerance was so high.
Now I'm realizing how stupid and lazy it made me. My IQ has returned to its pre-stoner level (basically 8th grade) and I'm starting to remember things I forgot when the Clash was still together.
No matter how harmless it might seem, it isn't harmless at all. It's making you dumber. If you're cool with that, hey, I'm not gonna be the guy to preach at you. No one could ever convince me and I wouldn't expect to convince anyone else.

There are many different drugs.
Some drugs, like alcohol, keep you from perceiving reality. It disrupt your long term memory and the ability to form long term goals.
Some drugs, like LSD, and Psilocybin, create new synapses and expand perception.
This expansion is still rooted in reality. Why do you think that google's AI look so psychedelic? Its because its a different perceptive based on the same material. It is by no means a false perspective. These funny interpretations in your vision also happen with your thoughts.
When you have these two perspectives of reality, you can form a more cohesive whole that you would otherwise be lacking.
If anything, NOT doing psychedelics prevents you from seeing the truth of reality.
What you are suggesting is the equivalent of reading a book that makes you permanently ignorant.
If the information is contradictory to your perception of reality, that doesn't mean the information is false, it means you misunderstand what you think "reality" is.

Ive listened to lots of music while on psychedelics, lots of which is very pro-christian, for example, I'm still agnostic.
Psych aren't for everyone. some are mentally weak and fall under the influence of these things easily. Some are not.
I've done more acid than anyone ITT. I can prove it too - I know why every person who does acid eventually quits of his own volition.
Fact is, there's no enlightenment to be gained. It's fun, at first. It's a true hallucinogenic, as in, if you've never done hallucinogenics before, it takes you out of the proverbial driver's seat. You will lose control, and the drug will take over.
The loss of control is interesting, because you're still in there. Kinda like riding a rollercoaster, you're having fun, but you're not steering, and you sure as hell can't get off.
But it progressively loses this effect, after a couple dozen trips, you will be in control. You'll have a tolerance, and you'll stop "tripping" as much. Eventually, after a couple hundred acid trips, you lose the tripping effects altogether, and it actually becomes a somewhat unpleasant experience - like being drunker than you want to be for a lot longer time than you want.
And that's when people quit. No one has to go to LSD rehab, everyone will quit eventually, with no prompting. One day someone will have some tabs and you'll just say No Thanks. Years later you might think your tolerance has gone away, and try dropping a tab or two. But it hasn't, it stays with you for life. Once you're done with LSD, you're just done with it, period.
Anyway, it's worth doing I suppose. But don't expect any earth-shattering revelations that will actually stick with you once the drug wears off. And when the effects start to lessen, that's as good a time as any to quit. If you don't ride the train all the way to the end, you can always hop on again now and then later in life. I myself cannot.
