No, the world is safer now than it has ever been before at any other time in history. The world is just a lot smaller than it used to be so information is easily shared.
Country wealth and power isn't directly tied to landmass and population anymore so there isn't much reason to take and hold territory with the hopes of border expansion. The only reason to invase is to either get at something specific or kill as many of their people as possible, assuming you're not going in as a peacekeeping force. At this point, soldiers aren't much more than a foreign police brigade because any armed conflict between major powers holds the danger of escalation into nuclear war.
