The last good hear of my life. The summer of 1999 was truly amazing. I spent time with my cousins when we were still close. In December of '99 I lost my grandmother and aunt within weeks of each other. Our family was forced to relocate. I went through three schools for sixth grade, and middle school became hell.
1999 was the last time I remember being genuinely happy. Pokemon was a huge part of that happiness.

We'd pile into a car and cruise this one main boulevard that all the other teenagers would cruise. Muscle cars and Japanese cars were streetracing all the time, cars full of girls were out looking for guys.

There were a few restaurants that'd be packed full of our age group on friday and saturday nights along this road.
The only thing we worried about was getting a speeding ticket or getting caught street racing.
High school was easy, lighthearted, and worry-free aside from the typical clique rivalry BS.
Then the Columbine shooting happened in April and that made everyone leery of that stereotype, but beyond that, the summer was fun and I remember just trying to get girls numbers and hook up with them. I did get lucky a couple of times.
Those were the days.

I still remember emailing and falling in puppy love with a girl who ran a Pokemon site I found on Anipike. We used to email and IM all fucking day and night during the summer. I still remember her site was called "Digital; Burakkii" (Burakkii being the Japanese name of Umbreon)
I'll never forget us watching Saturday Night Live at the same time and quoting what we just heard to each other on IM and laughing our asses off.

My favorite thing to do in that game was pick some random rental pokemon blindfolded against my brother and duke it out with my brother who knows more about pokemon than I did. Sometimes we would place bets on who would win the skirmish. The minigames were alright too. I did not like the gameboy games however. I was never a fan of the jrpg style gameplay and grinding.
