Germanic tribes are closer to fucking slavs than Celts, and even Italian Celt tribes are totally different from Gaulish Celt tribes. Romans came to love the look of Gauls and Germanic people from their hair to their physique and were a stark contrast.
In short, I'd guess they were still largely closer to Greeks - which they also alluded toward.
