To me, this is the only way this country can ever resolve the painful and highly controversial social issues which currently divide us completely. We need to be unified, period. Choosing one side and totally crushing the other one HAS NO WORKED in all our history, and cannot ever work unless you KILL the other half of the country to shut them up.

So, leave abortion and gay marriage federally permissible, and make weed legally permissible too.
Then let the states decide, through the most fair and democratic means possible, which way they want to go on these issues.
When Trump will get voted out is when he does shit like making abortion federally illegal--even with exceptions like rape. Federally legal, but then states can outlaw it if they want. You can choose where you live based on your beliefs and how you want to live. There will always be butthurt motherfuckers who want the place they want to call home to do what they want, but that's inevitable. At least most people will have a chance for their voice to be heard and their wishes to be respected if we do things this way.
Like I said, if Trump sticks to this, he can unify the majority of the voters out there. There will always be left-wing and right-wing fanatics who will never accept less but "their way or the highway" in all their beliefs FOR EVERYONE but hopefully the rest of them will outnumber them hugely.
