Let me suggest two potential rules, both somewhat novel, that could help prevent the twin problems of (1) a hostile takeover of the party by an outsider whose ideas and interests are opposed to the views of the majority of the party and (2) the nomination of a figure with minority support in the party due to a divided opposition.
The first would be a more or less explicit “Trump Rule”: a candidate who does not meet a minimum threshold of experience within the party may not be awarded the majority of delegates in any state. “Extra” delegates won by votes for such candidates could be allocated to unbound “superdelegates.” A minimum could be four or six years in certain specified offices as a Republican – Governor, Senator, Representative, Vice President, Cabinet Secretary, Mayor, state Attorney General, perhaps a few others.
The second potential rule change – which might be difficult to enforce in terms of ballot access, but could be effectively enforced through rules on delegates and debates, assuming the primary calendar is less compressed and less geographically unbalanced in the future – would be to have an escalating series of thresholds that a candidate must pass in order to remain in the race. Such thresholds already exist for debates, but they are very low and tend to rely on polls; these would be based on delegate and/or popular vote results in the early states.
Preventing hostile outsiders from using a minority of the vote to cram down a nominee unacceptable to the majority is exactly what party rules are for.

-During the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, the Japanese proposed a "racial equality clause". They just saw it as "Japanese people are not inferior" clause, but as you can imagine Western powers, mainly Britain and the US saw it differently. The proposition got the majority of votes, but the UK and US refused to vote, so Wilson overturned the decision saying that for something this important, an unanimous vote was needed. This was widely reported in Japan, anti-British and anti-American sentiment rose, and quickly it became simply an anti-western sentiment. It's also why the "honorary Aryans" thing is pretty big deal.
-Western powers consistently cockblocking Japan in it's expansion. After both the Sino-Japanese war and the Russo-Japanese war, western powers, mainly Britain and France, intervened and asked Japan to back down on some of their claims, or not take as much territory, or money.

Technically, Taiwan has a longer history of being owned by Japan than current Taiwanese living on Taiwan.
The current Chinese living on Taiwan are the fleeing Nationalists from Mao's Purge and America forced Japan to surrender Taiwan after WW2 but the terms were Japan surrendering Taiwan to America not to the fleeing Nationalists but America temporarily allowed the Nationalists to chill at Taiwan
This left a legal limbo that America's Congress and Japan never bothered further elaborating on which is why some Taiwanese claim Taiwan is the 51st State of America and Taiwan doesn't really have the legal right to own Taiwan.
However, America and Japan don't plan to fix this legal limbo anytime soon.
Also, prior to Japan's ownership of Taiwan.
Taiwan was mainly populated by either Chinese rebel rejects that refused the authority of the Chinese Dynasty and made a livelihood as pirates at the time or Europeans.
