First of all, there appears to be an error in this graph. Anybody who is willing and able to work is counted as part of the labor force.
So it's basically impossible to "want a job but not be in the labor force" unless you're disabled, taking care of family, etc. and those already have their markings. I suppose the only way to fall into that category is to want a job but not actually look for one.
Secondly,you see all of these 16-30year olds taking care of family members (and not working)? Those people should be working, but they probably couldnt find a job and are living with their parents.
And finally, this graph obscures the truly important data. Several Key Points:
1. Of the people in the labor force, how many have jobs? (That's the unemployment rate)
2. Of the people who are employed, how many are part time and how many are full time? And you will notice that fulltime workers are getting replaced with prt-timers so that business can meet minority quotas, not pay benefits, etc.
3. Among those people who actually work, how many of them are working in a job they're overqualified for? Do we have engineers doing janitorial jobs because they can't find anything better?
If you take into account these questions and more, the overall picture of the economy is bleaker than the Obama worshippers make it out to be.
