No, atheists think things like this evolved over long periods of time.

Christfags are the ones that think "it just happened."
...or more specifically a "magic being in the sky just made it happen."
>>
>>81309273
that's what christfags think, atheists think that at one point there were a bunch of ancestors to leaf bugs, the ones that were leafgreen survived the ones that weren't got eaten, those green leaf bugs then reproduced for hundreds of generations, the one that randomly mutated and ended up looking even more like a leaf survived and the plain green ones got eaten.

>there are grown adults who think a creator decided to just make an entire universe and only gave the knowledge of his existence and the rules that he wants one species of animal on this one planet to follow so that he doesn't have to condemn them to eternal torture almost 14 billion years after he invented time
>>
>>81309273
The most primitive organism that resembles animals was Charnia. It's body grew in a fractal way and this algorithm was based on just a few genes. The programming isn't really that complicated.

What creationists usually don't understand is that fact that there is no real "will" of the bug to look like that and mask itself. It is the "blindness" of the predators that makes looking like a literal leaf much more profitable for the bug, as animals that decieved the predator gain the reproductory advantage.
You also have to understand that the predator can see the animal from many different distances. From a big distance, just being green might be enough to decieve the predator, while if the predator is coming close, more complicated mimicry is necessary. There is a continuous spectrum of events that could make these bugs evolve the way they look, it is no "everything or nothing" jump.

This is really no big mystery, there are much biggers mysteries to ponder if you think that a God might exist or not - like the existence of the universe.

Reproduces is the key word.

A nail doesn't reproduce and serves no purpose in an ecosystem.

Even if something that did happen to resemble a nail was formed by chemical reactions and erosion, it wouldn't inherently provide any thermodynamic stability in that shape and would just continue to undergo the processes that formed it until it no longer resembled anything.

Ecosystems are an equilibrium.

If bugs that imitated leaves became too common, predators that are specialised in finding bugs that look like leaves would thrive until the leaf bugs became less common. Meanwhile, something imitating a stick could thrive.

This creates a system where a range of survival strategies can develop that keep each other in check but gradually change.

What Atheists Believe:
>billions of years ago, nothing the size of a single point exploded into everything and that's how we magically got time, space, and matter

What Christians believe:
>In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

In the beginning(time) God created the heaven(space) and the earth(matter). Wow, look at that, God can create time, space, and matter, which means he's above the plane of existence and therefor we don't need silly arguments about who created him, and when they created him since these concepts don't apply to his existence.

Looks like the bible gets it right again.

Firstly, you are reading some garbage translation. I doubt you can read biblical Hebrew (like me :') xD) but goodness man, at least read the KJV... It makes a difference, all the modern translations merely denigrate the word of God. For example.
>Isaiah 40:22
>>It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in

Much different from what you wrote.
>>
There's literally nothing wrong with the moral guidelines of Christianity, it's literally superior to pretty much every other religion and especially no religion but if you think that your religion explains the world and its creation / history, you're basically sand nigger tier preaching about how Allah is the final and only god and muh prophet Muhammad.
>>
>>81311833

Metaphor.

When Christians don't like or can't explain something in the Bible: metaphor.

Or "that particular rule was for the people at the time only, not like the rules I agree with which are for all humanity."
>>
>>81315819
Fair, but I was just reading the modern English translation but that still says nothing about the earth being a sphere. All that implies at best is that he was sitting somewhere and the earth is a circle, which is akin to flat earth so still the same thing.
So no, at any rate or translation the bible never said or never will say the earth was a sphere because it was a completely foreign and almost unprovable except with very complicated (back then) concepts and mathematics, at a time where the average person could not read or write.

That might have something to do with how long one version of Christianity has been in power though. If you put one certain group of the same metaphysical outlook in power over a huge landmass long enough, you can produce a list that would be just as impressive.

For instance, I'm sure that if, for some historic reason, you made the entire continent of America Hindu for a thousand years, you could produce an equally impressive list. Also, the claim that a certain religion 'causes' science and arts is highly dubious, and ignores all the other factors involved (trade, certain historical events, etc.)

But the case of the bombardier beetle works in favour of the evolutionary theories when taking that exact argument in consideration.
If the beetle wasn't "designed" properly, it would likely just die and produce no offspring. Hence why you don't see beetles just randomly exploding and killing themselfes.
The ones that could produce the exploding effect without dying are the ones that gave their genes to the next generation of bombardier beetles.

>Morons still can't grasp probability and accidents

Imagine a lottery.
Imagine you have a ticket.
Imagine your chances of winning are one hundred million to one.
Now here's the kicker, imagine if you drew a ticket every second.
Your chances of winning any one ticket is extremely low, but as time passes and you draw more tickets for billions and billions of years, eventually there will be a victory. Simple, yes?

Imagine a molecule.
Imagine trillions of independent molecules.
Imagine them colliding and separating against one another.
The chances of any pair doing anything noteworthy is extremely low.
But give them billions of years, etc.

Evolution is not complex. It is simple.

Christians give birth to retard babies to be born in name of pro-life and still pretend they don't understand genetic mutation or evolution. Sometimes it doesn't takes thousands of years that you change. Insects change more often because some insect types have million of children, so evolution or you may call it change happens more often. Some of it is good change, some bad.

From my understanding wombats do square shits so they can mark their territory. They shit on logs and rocks and the square shape means the shit stays there and doesn't roll or slide off the rocks or logs.

At one point wombats may have shat spheres but a genetic mutation allowed the wombats with square assholes to mark their territory more effectively and therefore survive.

We didn't have the equipment to actually prove it until the early 1900's.

i.e.
Imagine we have a unopened box with a marble inside.
I say that the marble inside is red.
10 years pass and we finally open the box to find that the marble is indeed red.

That doesn't mean that I knew it was red all along, it simply means I took a guess and that my guess was correct. Until opening the box, there was no actual way of proving the colour of the marble.

Same priciple goes to christianity when people say they "knew" that light was a particle/wave mix 500 years before modern physics proved it.

I think thats the difference in view. the atheist perceives the universe as a closed box with a problem to solve. You have to do this especially when true knowledge was known to those through religion and common sense. Guessing may have something to do with it but they sure did guess everything right. Seems like alot of closed boxes. What are the chances of that?

Whilst I believe in evolution, pop evolution is wholly incorrect

A. Humans did not stop evolving 50,000 years ago except for skin color. We are in fact still evolving now, and the selective pressures for intelligence have gone.

B. There is no end goal of evolution, thus why I believe ancient man was on average more intelligent. Ancient European on average more intelligent than current, ancient African more so than current, etc. as the world heated up, we all got on average dumber. But that's not to say that there aren't more geniuses than before, which is purely a product of population size.

C. Many theories like Giants and elongated skull people are discounted essentially because of pop evolution. Archeologists confused pop evolution with reality, and in order to keep evolution as a thing, they would rather say that elongated skull people are impossible. No, they're not, according to evolution they are completely possible.

>The biblical god is literally real and its way of manifesting its awesomeness is funny shaped rocks

Even if you are retarded enough to doubt evolution, it at least can provide a mechanism by which it operates, whether you believe it possible or not

Creationists, and intelligent design retards have never once, ever, in history, provided an explanation by which their retarded theory would operate in the real world. Do these bugs magically pop out of nowhere into existence? Does a leaf and a bug combine to form a leaf bug, using the holy spirit?

Stop and think about that for a second, about the actual functionality of creationism, and you'll finally understand how fucking stupid its brainless adherents actually are. It only exists as a contrarian theory, it doesn't even have the ability to stand up on its own merit.

>>hat is interesting though is that Christianity has been the greatest inspiration for science and the arts, and I would argue the main reason why Europe is so brilliant.

I absolutely agree with this, but aside the "muh white people ar bettur" meme the reason scientific progress was so fast in Europe was also due to the harsh living conditions. For the majority of Europe's relevant lifespan it was in a mini ice age. You had about 5 months of the year to build things, get food, explore and trade to a decent capacity before everything was basically frozen and cold and people died to starvation all the time. Any innovation to make systems of trade or building etc etc were welcomed and constantly driven for because it made life slight easier in those 7 months that it was cold and sucked.

In the rest of the world overwhelmingly you didn't have 7 months of "go outside for more than an hour without proper clothing and get hypothermia and die".

But yes, Christianity was also a huge and significant factor in driving forward progress in Europe, despite how much the church hurt controversial (to their beliefs) scientific progress.
>>
>>81320904

They understood that "lose too much blood, die". Blood letting was supposed to be a procedure to "balance" the body. Otherwise, they would have taken out *all* the blood, or at least tried to.

Religion is the only reason science exists in the first place. To literally explore gods creation. A majority of early scientific minds had faith and built their theories on it, later to be proven true.

So yes, religion has given us everything we have. A better question would be the nice society you live in with values and morals, would that be there from the church of science? Certainly not.

Ezekiel's Vision is a phenomena that many continue to have even today.
I had it when I tripped to hard on acid and couldn't stop throwing up for hours and felt like I was going to die, when I finally passed out I literally saw pic related who told me the way to happiness is to find a virgin wife and have a virgin marriage between us. The way to save the World is to get everyone to realize one is all and all is one. We are all feeling pain and suffering, but also pleasure and joy.
Imagine if people weren't selfish.
Ask around on /x/ and you'll find others who had this vision.
I knew nothing about God until I had this vision.

I find modern accounts of dinosaurs easier to believe than bible stories. like, raptors are basically just large chickens

now, giant lizards roaming the earth-spanning jungles, that always struck me as some bullshit

replace human with god and you have religion.
Except that god is not accountable to humans, whereas other humans are.
if your god is real and capable of creation, it cheapens your long and difficult existence to a mere plaything of a supernatural entity who only created you to sate it's own boredom.

Pretty much every Nazi through history believed in Evolution, everyone from George Lincoln Rockwell to Hitler. They also believed that Caucasian and Mongolids were higher on the evolutionary scale than Negroids.

So why are there creationist Nazis on /pol/? They have no reason to believe that blacks are inferior to whites since it says in the bible that we are all created equal and that you shouldn't kill anyone>>81322920

They change their opinions on both how dinosaurs looked, worked, and even how their basic anatomy was set up every few centuries or so.

It's really shaky thanks to a lot of scam artists constantly billowing in bullshit mixed in with some genuine stuff.
